A: COOKING FIRE SHENANIGANS

Feeling peckish? Have a delivery to make? Or just want to try your own hand at serving up some grub? The Redsworn's usual cooking area has been expanded for the evening, with two extra firepits dug out to cater for additional mouths. Over one fire burns the now "traditional" starter meat of bear flank, something any newly sworn (red or otherwise) will have the pleasure of sampling first. There's also several baskets of berries, fruit and vegetables, while a pot obtained in trade from Silverglen bubbles merrily.

B: FIRESIDE MINGLE

The redsworn of the Ruby Sanctum have claimed a corner of their own beneath one of the larger trees. There's a smaller fire here set for warmth and ambience, and have logs set about for seating for those who don't like perching on rocks or roots, or don't find the comfy grass comfy - park yourself and have a chat!

She pondered his explanation as she munched on the sandwich, finding it very, very tasty. She could almost have forgotten about the whole discussion until she finished it, but this whole thing was just getting under her skin.

"I can understand avoiding getting hurt. You have to be cautious." Taking another bite, she pondered how best to say what she was thinking. "But... if you take it too far, then it just become cowardice and paranoia. If you can't take risks at all, you aren't even really alive, are you?"

[On the inside, the Master is practically salivating over this information, but on the outside he looks sympathetic, and lowers his voice to something more quiet and hesitant.]

From what you're saying, it sounds like it would rude to ask what changed all that...

It is not my answer to give. [ Lowering her gaze even more. Nothing pains her more than having to keep information from someone, but he is Black Dragonsworn. ]

Surely this Surion would tell it to you if you asked him, would he not?

[He figured as much, but he had to try. Test his limits and all that.]

I think Surion likes his secrets. [He gives her a smile.] It helps him appear enigmatic. But maybe I'll ask him when I get home from this, quite lovely, little party. Your dragonsworn have done a nice job putting it all together.

It is through the efforts of many that this is a success. Remember that it is easier to do good with the help from all instead of taking it upon yourself.

[ It isn't entirely directed at him as it's just a blanket statement, but she does lift her gaze with a smile. ]

Does he prefer to keep secrets? They always have. That is what makes them endearing.

But she doesn't need to hear that from him. He is playing the role of Good Guy, after all. For now.]

I'm not sure "endearing" is the word I would use in particular [maybe "pain in my ass"] but then I'm not a dragon.

Forgive me, I forget that the younger ones are not wholly aware.

That's an excellent suggestion, ma'am.

[ She hadn't considered a formal council, but now that the suggestion has been made, Carolina's already turning it over in her mind. She'd mostly intended this to be a chance to mingle, but.. ]

Once this gathering is over, I'll raise it with the others, see what the others think. [a small frown] Though would that be stepping on Krasus' and the other dragon mage's toes?

[not that she cares (much) about the other ones, but no point making life difficult for the Redsworn's mage.]

How hard do you think it will it be to find who you're looking for?

Hmmf. [she's been involved in enough experiments with lack of information before; she doesn't desire to be subject to that again any time soon.] Alexstrasza said that time was the domain of the Bronze dragons. So. If it means waiting for the Bronze dragonflight to sort out their magic, I'll wait.

I was pulled here, same as you. I'm just much more used to that sort of thing, that's all. Things like time travel and going to different worlds are old hat for us people of Azeroth.

[And he says that so cheerfully, too. It's kind of scary.]

This one isn't really official, but this is my fourth deployment as a Blood Knight.

..Doesn't sound like many mercenary contracts from my time. So yes. That's more freedom than some would have.

[ does she approve? disapprove? It's hard to say. ]

You mean how hard is finding a single person from a single timeline among countless planets, alternate timelines and dimensions? Oh I'm sure it'll be a cinch!

[he shakes his head at the statement.]

It's more than sorting out magic. The Burning Legion is an inter-dimensional force. There's a risk that if we make a gateway or portal to another place- the Burning Legion could piggyback along.

A mercenary can turn down an offer he doesn't like.

Certainly. [a half-shrug] But most mercenary contracts aren't so flexible where I'm from, compared to yours, by the sounds of things.

[ not unless your reputation precedes you anyway. Hence a second thoughtful side-eye ]

There are some things, like survival instincts, that kick in no matter what species you are. [He smirks.] I think it's a bit reassuring, especially with the sheer amount of species clustered together here from other universes--a plethora of ones I've never even seen in all my lifetimes.

[ unimpressed look is unimpressed, Kaneis. ]

It'll give you something to keep yourself occupied if nothing else. [is she being sarcastic? ..she's being sarcastic, isn't she.]

If we fail, that's going to happen anyway. The point of our being here is to defeat them to prevent such a thing occurring in the first place. [nomnom there goes skewer #2] It won't be a quick or easy process. If the Bronze dragons have a means to stop it reoccurring later, I'm not the one to ask.

Not everyone is fit to lead. [And doesn't he know it? He sounds utterly unsurprised (and maybe a little satisfied) as if he'd ultimately expected that reaction.

His smile is perhaps a bit too understanding, to compensate.] But yes-- something to consider. Something for your entire flight to consider now, I suppose.

You may find me in Silverglen most days when you -- or someone else -- is ready to talk about this further.

Contracts work both ways. No one has to accept one with terms they don't care for in the first place.

If I need to contact you and can't find you, how would I recognize someone from your flight to pass on a message?

Aren't those the same thing in this case? Fighting a powerful enemy one at a time is a good way to get everyone killed, but a team working together can do far more with less risk.

Breaking contract here isn't likely to be as easy as back home. [in both their cases - not that she's considering doing so]
