Ever since having escaped from the city Bruce has made an effort to be more careful in how he goes around - once was already bad enough, and Bruce had no desire to go through that whole thing a second time. Especially with the risks it involved for him.
Still, there was really only so long he could hide in the sanctum and thrive off meat without his stomach rebelling in some fashion (though it was really more of him than his stomach, per se), so eventually Bruce had to venture back out once more into the world, finding something that was most decisively not meat.
...which is how he found Apollo, barely dressed and apparently trying to find food in the river. Not exactly a sight that would faze him, considering the parts of Earth he had been to, but still not something he expected to happen right there and then.
"You probably would have better luck further upstream. They tend to congregate more there."
