Who: Greensworn and you

[OOC: This post is for any and all interaction with Derenaar and the Greensworn helping the elves from scouring demons to rearranging the greenery to other daily quests up to and including showing other Dragonsworn around. Please remember to add your tag to the post.]

[When the Greensworn arrived at Derenaar, they weren't entirely sure what to expect. Were these elves going to be like the Sin'thalas elves and wish their destruction because of some grudge against the dragons? Or would they be more like the elves of Silverglen Retreat, willing to allow them access and trade but stay distant? What they hadn't expected was - after a lengthy conversation in Darnassian between Rose Hathaway and the elven leaders of Derenaar - to be welcomed in with open arms to the city.

With it being better than initially expected, the Greensworn set about proving themselves by helping out in Derenaar. It seemed a bag of demon heads and a few Kaldorei druids that still honored the Green Flight went a long way.]

I can take you through my wilderness survival course from the Academy if you want? I'm from a heavily forested place and it was a daily exercise for all novices.

[To this, Mar simply shrugs.] I'd just like to be accomplishing something... without it being pulled down around my ears. To that extent, I'd keep an eye out down here, if I were you. I have absolutely no doubt that none of my Flight caused any harm or grief to the Kaldorei of Silverglen, but the Silverglen elves believed it nonetheless...

One of mine was affected by that as well. Jacques... he didn't even know how to do what they accused him of. We've got a trusted contact in the Blue Flight - a friend of one of mine from the same world as him - that's done research into it. There's reason to suspect that the Black Flight might be behind it, so unless you're dealing with Apollo and Emma Frost, I'd say be on the guard.

I appreciate the warning, though. If you want to work with the greensworn, I got no problem with that. Just... don't give up on your flight. Mine and yours? We need to be the backbone of this whole dragonsworn operation.

I won't say that surprises me... but to be honest, I wouldn't put it past the Bronze Flight either, since it's the flight that deals the most with time and it may seek to address some sort of potential future ramification thing. [He waves a hand vaguely in midair. He really doesn't want to explain the troubles behind the other flights, considering they all take place in his Azeroth of the far future... ] Whatever the case, SOMEone appears to have it out for us.

I'll personally be happy to aid you however you can, but first let me tell you something... [He coughs into a fist to clear his throat, straightens to his full height, then says:] I once was knocked half a mile across a Pandaran valley by a massive mushan named Miss Fanny, into the mouth of a hundred-foot-tall Ik'thik Colossus which had just smashed the ancient wall erected to hold back the mantid swarm, which I then defeated using focused strikes I'd learned from a secretive martial arts master nearby on its internal organs.

[Just outside town, Qilby's stumbled upon three bowmen.

It's clear at a glance that neither of them are real soldiers, merely civilians looking to defend their borders. It would be a simple matter to just overpower them-- but unless he's trying to create more work for himself, he needs to keep his interactions with any Night Elf strictly peaceful. So through a combination of the handful of words in Darnassian he's picked up here and there and crude sign language, he manages to communicate Silverglen and friend but it's obvious the bowmen are still skeptical.

Qilby holds back a a grimace. If these were any other elves, he'd just plant whatever damned truth he wanted in their heads and be done with it. But it seems there's at least one weakness to the Blacksworn gift of "persuasion": he can't force a lie on someone if they can't even understand a word he's saying. Wonderful.

He might be here a while... Unless some charitable soul happens along, that is.]

[Rose hadn't discounted the Bronze flight, but she really didn't know anyone from it to gauge what they were like. Sure, Sora had a friend there, but like she'd told him, just because his friend wasn't willing to do something like that didn't mean someone else in the flight would.]

I'll keep that in mind.

[And then Maridian went on some dramatic presentation of a lot of things Rose had never heard of before, not being from Azeroth, but assuming a mushan was some kind of power full beast and that mantids were a bunch of nasty insect-things like she'd seen drawn on the one map she'd gotten her hands on from the Derenaar elves... she got the gist. It sounded absolutely crazy, but considering how some of the things she'd done would sound to an outsider...]

If all that means you can take a hit and keep on ticking, hopefully making it so that colosssus thing's body ended up blocking the giant hole it made to keep the mantid things back, then rock on, elf-dude.

[One of the bowmen disappeared into the forest after telling the blacksworn to while the other kept their bows trained on Qilby. A few minutes later, Rose arrived with the elf that had gone to get her. She wasn't wearing her armor, though she was still armed with the large sword, though it rest across her back.]

Hey, old man. What brings you south?

[To which Mar bows, gratefully.] It did to a point, but we defeated the sha that influenced the commanders of the invasion and broke the swarm when they realized it was too soon, so we did solve the problem, even if it wasn't quite as simple as I've made it sound.

[Straightening up, he considered her for a moment, then made a snap decision.]

In the meantime, your acceptance is exactly why I'll warn you not to rely on the red flight. Enough voices in the flight speak loudly enough to insist that the only war they will fight is the one they understand... and unfortunately, they don't understand Azeroth.

[He doubts she does either, but she's prepared to accept it, which means she's prepared to fight the battle they have. And the victory here is what matters most.]

Yeah... I've kind of gathered that from Vastania. She's really frustrated over it. But hopefully a good kick in the tail and a really clunky human Armed Forces from my world analogy gets her pointed in the right direction. Or something. Before I decide to take drastic measures.

[Rose didn't understand Azeroth, that was certain, but she was dedicated to protecting the Dragomir Princess she was promised to back home. The only way she could do that was defeating the Burning Legion here.]

But I'll only do that if it looks like you all are going to come to internal blows over something as retarded as too many chiefs, not enough Indians.

[His face doesn't betray his surprise when a familiar Greensworn shows up on the scene. Well, well, well. He addresses Rose coolly, as if he's not at risk of being used as an elven pincushion.]

Merely gathering some reagents that grow best in this area. [Which is true, and he indicates as much by reaching into the pack slung over his one good shoulder (flinching when one of the elves pulls his bowstring even more taut) and holding up a bundle of pale-blue blooms. Innocent, see?

He may have come here for ingredients, but-- the Green Dragonflight, here? Suddenly he's found something far more interesting.]

They answer to you? Perhaps you could ask them to lower their weapons before I'm forced to retaliate with my... [He smiles, brandishing the flowers mock-threateningly.] ...Dangerous flowers?

They don't answer to me, but they've asked me to come deal with you since they had some trouble understanding what you wanted.

[She then asked the elves to relax, in Darnassian. She added on that Qilby was from the Black Flight and was just gathering herbs. One of them raised an eyebrow when she said he was blacksworn but lowered his bow and told the others to do the same. The elf then told Rose that they'd be watching Qilby and slipped back into the woods.]

You'll probably have some elven shadows while you're in the area.

The Vindicator, unfortunately, is one of the loudest of the voices I spoke of. [Again, quite cheerful. Why bother making any big fuss out of just how much her rejection of all that he had done stung? He's a liar in her eyes, and so be it. All the better in the long run.] At this rate, I would not be surprised if you found yourself in that position.

Vas is a bit stiff, yeah, but she's got a good heart. She's all excited that I've apparently been chosen by the Light. She just needs to loosen up some. You know, good at leading a charge, but not so much leading a diverse group. Compromise isn't exactly her thing.

[Rose shrugged.] But I'll give it time, just like I'm giving the Queen D time to get her ducks in a row about a few things. I can be patient like that when I want to be.

You've summed her up precisely. I suspect she's the most likely to take the lead should she ever gather up the internal strength to do it... although that will ultimately leave my abilities completely wasted, and shut out any Dragonsworn who use questionable powers for good ends. That eventuality worries me.

I... I don't really think she wants to lead. She just realizes there needs to be leadership, and if no one else will do it... In that way, she's kind of like me. I took up the mantle because without it, my flight had no direction and without it they were going to get picked off. Everyone else, just sort of fell into line behind me.

[She tilted her head a bit as something dawned on her.] That's not the first time that's happened to me, now that I think about it. Weird.

Anyways, this is where my weird Armed Forces analogy kind of works. Different specialized groups within your flight, each with its own leader, and then those leaders all meet in a council to decide how best to approach the threat, utilizing their respective strengths.

[It was pretty normal for Zelos to travel the woods alone. It was pretty easy to stay away from danger when your hearing was as good as his. And even the smaller demon groups he had little trouble handling on his own.]

[Plus frankly, he wasn't all that fond of people.]

[Still, when he hears Rose heading his way, he decides to not to veer off and wait for her. Since hey, haven't seen her in awhile.]

What do you know, it's a small forest after all.

Long time, no see, Kane. And yeah, that's what I'm going to call you because Kaneis feels weird in my mouth.

[Rose leaned against a tree.] Seriously, what kind of name is that?

From what I know of her, she lacks any confidence in herself. If she could gain that, then she would be as well-suited for the job as anyone... and would believe in herself. That seems to be all she needs to be suited for the task.

[As to the rest, well. That assumed any of the flight believed certain members had any strengths whatsoever, and weren't to just be shuttled around like pawns, useless and pointless. He said nothing, but his silence on that matter speaks volumes.]

[Yeah, well, that was that and the last Rose was going to bring up her stupid analogy.]

So, question then. Is Vas... young for a draenei? Cause that would explain a lot.

[Some things don't need to be translated to be understood. Qilby gets the gist of the conversation between Rose and the others even before she passes it along to him. He frowns slightly.]

They don't have to worry. I don't believe I'll stay away from Silverglen long if this is the reception I can expect here.

[Sighing, he tucks the herbs away back in his pack but flashes a quick, grateful smile afterwards.] But thank you-- Rose, is it? I appreciate the... Timely intervention.

[There's a question in his voice. Surely she just didn't happen to be in the area, not when she's apparently on-hand for the elves to go fetch for help whenever something steps foot over their borders. There must be a reason she's here.]

It would be impolite of me to have ever asked, you know! [Mar can't help but laugh, because there's no way that could have ended well -- both because of the draenei longevity leading them to have little perspective on what 'young' is to a 'lesser' race, and the sheer affront Vas would've taken. It's a real and heart laugh... he needed that.]

I'm guessing yes.

[He snorts and shrugs]

Kaneis? [He shrugs. It's not that weird a name in ~~fake greek land~~ Meltokio, though it's not like he's that fond of it] I dunno, what kind of name is Rose?

Well, you know how xenophobic people can get. Takes a lot to get them to let you inside and even then they want to keep others out. Some things just take time.

[Rose hears that question and mulls over how exactly she wanted to answer it.]

This is Derenaar, by the way. My flight's established really strong relations with these elves. They respect what the Green Flight does in this world, so they let us in. I've managed to get them to understand that the dragonsworn are here to help against the Burning Legion, so they're probably going to let other flights pass through, but you see how they get when they can't understand what you're saying.

So just walk softly and don't stay long when here until I can make things better for all of us. Okay?

I just thought that maybe you'd know being as you're both from Azeroth! I can look at a human and tell if they're old or not based on how they look. I can do the same with Moroi, not to mention my own race.

There's no delicate way to ask someone from another race how old they are and what exactly that means in the scope of their racial lifespan. Where I come from, people are lucky to live past a hundred years unless their evil undead assholes.

A beautiful flower that represents love and affection. Just watch out for the thorns. [a beat] And it's a nickname. My full name is Rosemarie. You can see why I shortened it.
