[A. Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO RED, BRONZE AND GREEN FLIGHTS.]

[It seriously hadn't taken long for Zelos to be sick of hanging around the Sanctum and training all the time. Being kept somewhere for his safekeeping had never sat well with him, after all. So he worked on learning about the other areas from the dragons. Sure, most places in the area seemed to want to happily kill him- but it sounded like Silverglen Retreat would be alright for a first stop!]

[Especially if he wanted to get food that wasn't flame-cooked bear meat.]

[And so, ignoring warnings of how it was dangerous outside, he headed out to Silverglen Retreat. He made it there without incident, and once he proved he was a Redsworn, he was allowed in with only wary staresm - which was something he was used to anyway.]

[His hair probably makes him for an easy person to spot in the marketplace, and currently he's wandering the stalls trying to figure out how to get supplies in a trade-based economy when your life skills are well, limited, to say the least.]

[B. Forest outside Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO ALL.]

[Eventually it seemed some elf decided to throw him a bone (or just get to stop hitting on their daughters for stuff) and made an arrangement that if he brought back a number of stag flanks- they'd give him some supplies he needed. Which hey, he could do that! He could fight, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?]

[Except, for one problem your character might come across, as he kneels over a stag that's clearly been killed by fire and sword cuts - a look of frustrated confusion very clear on his face]

Damn...where's the flank again?

[Oh, whoops. Maybe he had put that too harshly...somehow? Gah what's that weird tact thing people keep going on about.]

Well- who cares what they think. They're just some guys with weird eyebrows who live out in the boondocks. What do they know?

[ TACT INDEED.. god.. but zelos manages to salvage it somehow in that.. weird way that he's able to do the comforting thing. it actually works with genis, surprisingly, because he GETS UNCOMFORTABLE when people try to coddle him, so.

go figure. ]

Heh.. yeah, what's with those eyebrows, anyway?

[Aw yeah he wins. Or got lucky, whatever. HE'LL TAKE WHAT HE CAN GET]

I don't got a clue. They're pretty stupid.

Anyway, one of them said they'd give me supplies if I brought them some stag flanks. If you help out, maybe I could be persuaded to split the goods.

[ genis "starved for social interaction" sage is more than happy to jump all over this, you know, and his face brightens openly for a moment -

- but then he remembers his sass, and exhales in a haughty snort. ]

Well.. I suppose I miiight be willing to help you out. I doubt you have any idea what you're doing, anyway..

[ Meanwhile Zelos "what is social acceptance" Wilder just assumes that face brightening is because he's being offered a chance for food. It's understandable, really!]

[He scoffs]

Please. Like you know how to do this any better.

[Even if that would be helpful because my god what is a flank]

[ way to misinterpret, zelos "bad ending" wilder!! ]

Hey! How do you know that, huh? Raine and I have spent a long time on the road you know, and I know tons about cooking, and preparing meat! And I've read books..

[ so okay he's never actually done this physically himself before, but.. ]

Well, go ahead then! [Gesturing at the still dead stag] We need the flank.

Yeah, maybe not.

[Curse not having any actual profitable skills. But he'll watch her. He's...pretty impressed she was able to convince him to give a necklace away for only two apples. Back home, that probably been laughable]

[Then again, with how hungry he was, he probably would've picked the apples too.]

Uh- sure thing!

[He'll step over and offer his hand to take the necklace]

[And with that cut, they'll star to work through it until there's a good hunk of meat cut out of the stag]

B-but..

[ euygh!! you're the physical one here, zelos, you can get your hands dirty. genis pulls a face. ]

You're the one who's good with the sharp things, okay? How about you do the cutting, and I do the telling-you-what-to-do.

[wilder]

'Good with sharp things'. Wow, that doesn't make me sound shady.

[But he sighs and moves to kneel. He rather not fuck up the chance for dinner over making the kid do stuff out of spite]

Fine. Tell me where to cut.

[Rose handed the necklace over and turned around. Gathering her hair up off the back of her neck, she didn't even think about him seeing her Promise Mark or other guardian tattoos located there.

Down the middle was an elongated S- shape, to the left of it were two x-marks that looked a lot like crossed lightning bolts and on the right was a fancy looking star. All four were done in black ink.]

[Yep, he sure is noticing the tattoos as he puts the necklace on. Since hey, they were pretty interesting looking]

What does the S stand for?

It's not an S. It's my Promise Mark. It means I completed my training and passed my test to be recognized as a full Guardian.

[wilder]

A full Guardian? What's that?

Oh, we're elite bodyguards specially trained to handle evil undead threats.

[ One day, someone would convince Carolina to trade in her aqua blue armor for something more 'befitting' for a member of the Redsworn. But thus far, Carolina had been exceptionally stubborn on the matter and the colour remained. Albeit hidden beneath a grey cloak she'd been granted by their benefactors.

Proving herself a Redsworn had been...interesting. Amane's insistance that she learn how to at least call on fire had left with many things to think about, and though it had taken some concentration, that much had been managed. Now she walked the market with the gait of someone used to combat, ignoring the fact she was easily several hands shorter than the native elves (who eyed her hair and eyes and lack of pointed ears as she passed).

Kaneis was easy to spot, though Carolina did not immediately move to intercept - instead, she followed the outer path of the market to the far left side of the town, where she'd caught sight of an open forge, and now stood paused, watching one of the blacksmiths work his wares. ]

...Do the evil undead make a lot of assassination attempts where you're from?

Enough that Guardians are needed to protect the Royals no matter what.

Okay! The flank, right? That's this part.

[ the upside of having a little genius sponge mind - genis might never have personally done this himself before, but he's seen plenty of diagrams which he can call to mind literally photographically, so. convenient! he pops down onto his knees to point out a place on the lower belly, just before the thigh, outlining a shape with his hands. ]

Here! Though it seems like a waste to just leave the rest, there's all kinds of usable meat..

[ this is how poor people think okay. and chefs. ]

[He'll watch him outline the shape. Zelos wasn't slow, but he was definitely sheltered when it came to stuff like this. Most monsters weren't really edible, and the ones that were they just cut whatever. And even then, most meat he did consume had already been cut up by a butcher.]

[But still, he focuses enough that he only needs to watch once before he gives a nod and an "alright", leaning over to start cutting into the animal. It's gross and bloody, but really most sword fighting and medical work is so he barely thinks twice about it.]

[Nor does he think twice about whether Genis is right or not. Anyone else he'd question, but he knew better than to do that with a Sage.]

[At Genis's remark, he agrees, but...]

Yeah, but you got a way to carry it back to the village?

[wilder]

[The forge and blacksmith was one of the last areas he visits, even if he knows it'd be useful to see what sort of gear they have. Blacksmiths made him nostalgic. Not that he had spent a great deal of time near an actual forge, but he had known someone who did. Someone who had spent so much time around them, you could still smell the burning wood and molten metals in his scent.]

[And really, he much rather not think about that guy.]

[So spotting Carolina is a welcomed distraction. And he needs a distraction enough to give her a wave, and walk over to bother her]

Wow...

Makes me kinda glad the undead where I'm from just indiscriminately try to kill anyone they find.

[ yeah, talk about gross... euygh. genis pulls a face, but keeps his commentary to himself, because he doesn't need zelos flinging bloody meat at him in retaliation i mean gross.

instead he's thinking, frowning in thought and lifting his eyes to the area around them, the trees, the bushes, the grass.. it just seems like such a waste -- but then -- ]

Oh! The leaves! We could wrap some, to carry.. I mean, not a lot, but..

Sometimes the Strigoi aren't so picky. They just have this hard-on to destroy all the Royal houses.
