[A. Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO RED, BRONZE AND GREEN FLIGHTS.]

[It seriously hadn't taken long for Zelos to be sick of hanging around the Sanctum and training all the time. Being kept somewhere for his safekeeping had never sat well with him, after all. So he worked on learning about the other areas from the dragons. Sure, most places in the area seemed to want to happily kill him- but it sounded like Silverglen Retreat would be alright for a first stop!]

[Especially if he wanted to get food that wasn't flame-cooked bear meat.]

[And so, ignoring warnings of how it was dangerous outside, he headed out to Silverglen Retreat. He made it there without incident, and once he proved he was a Redsworn, he was allowed in with only wary staresm - which was something he was used to anyway.]

[His hair probably makes him for an easy person to spot in the marketplace, and currently he's wandering the stalls trying to figure out how to get supplies in a trade-based economy when your life skills are well, limited, to say the least.]

[B. Forest outside Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO ALL.]

[Eventually it seemed some elf decided to throw him a bone (or just get to stop hitting on their daughters for stuff) and made an arrangement that if he brought back a number of stag flanks- they'd give him some supplies he needed. Which hey, he could do that! He could fight, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?]

[Except, for one problem your character might come across, as he kneels over a stag that's clearly been killed by fire and sword cuts - a look of frustrated confusion very clear on his face]

Damn...where's the flank again?

[Bet your tailors call it salmon. Tethe'alla fashions are nothing if not pretentious!!]

Could trade recipes, I suppose. [She doesn't sound like she's joking?] Not sure I have any crafting skills for trade that'd be of any use here. [downside of career military upbringing -- and being from the space age] But finding things for trading...

[After a moment's consideration, Carolina stepped forwards, stepped away, leaving Zelos behind or to follow as he wished. Now was the time to pay very close attention to the more popular bartering exchanges.]

Ha. Yeah. [He could teach them the fine art of SANDWICHES!! And curry]

[But he could relate to her sentiment. The only things he were really good at her flirting and killing things. But before he could answer, she steps away. Curiously, he starts to follow her, seeing what she's doing]

[ So's your hair ohhhhhhh ]

[ I dunno, curry sounds kinda good right now. Could it make bear meat more edible? Whatever the case, they don't seem to be lacking in time for learning about these things... ]

[ Carolina never flirted much before, and certainly had no reason to now. All business all the time. But she's aware of what she can do, what she can't do, what she was made to be. And those skills in her possession don't necessarily translate well in Azeroth when it came to matters of money and trade. And yet..

Carolina's aware Zelos is following, and occasionally she gives him an annoyed look if he moves in too close; not his fault if she stops abruptly, however, but mostly, she's looking at the goods available, and exactly what if anything gets traded over. What do the cloth vendors favour? The jewellery was pretty but pointless to her eyes - what good would that do them, exactly? - but the potters and metalsmiths that handled trade goods had certain items they favoured over others.

Eventually, she steps away, thoughtful, coming to a stop on the steps leading out of town. ]

[murmured] Where do they find metals around here.

[wilder]

[Wow that's just rude now]

[He does keep his distance when he's following her. He's partly observing the town, gathering what info he can- but he's also observing her. What she's interested by, what she isn't. To a guy like him, knowing anything he can about the people that were supposedly his comrades was just important as knowing the rest of the situation.]

[Her question though, surprises him. His world is also one that still uses smiths and limited metals, so the answer is simple]

Hm? They probably probably mine it from any surface deposit they can. Or just in mines if they're lucky enough to have any around.

[ MAN WHATEVER CLOSE ENOUGH IT STILL WORKED.....

anyway!! genis frowns a little thoughtfully at that. i mean, it makes sense, and it's probably true, but it still sticks in his craw a little bit. man, what bad luck he has, to find a place where no one seems to mind-half elves, but to be sworn instead into the flight that no one trusts..

life is hard when you're an unlucky child. ]

[ .. at any rate, these sort of discomforts aren't really things he should be talking about with zelos of all people, so he shakes his head and tries to focus on what's front of him. ]

Anyway, I wonder where we should take these.. are there any food vendors? Or, maybe the inn?

[wilder]

[With Zelos of all people. Wow why not Genis?! Is it because he was raised to hate half-elves? Or because he has the emotional competency of a 5 year old? Or just because he's an asshole who comes off as extremely apathetic to everything half the time?]

[...On second thought, why the hell do you even talk to Zelos in the first place?]

There's a small marketplace. We can probably fetch some good stuff there, and I gotta turn this flank into that guy.

And that's what you are?

[ YEAH..... ALL THOSE THINGS....

because hey he's not all bad. i mean, he helped with this. that's something! ]

Oh, yeah! Okay, let's go there, then.

[ he's already got a laundry list in his head of things he needs to try to get.. ]

[wilder]

[It is! Maybe he'll win the "not as big a jerk as he could've been" award yet!]

[He just gives a "hm" and heads off into the direction of the marketplace. Sure enough, there's several stalls and merchants around, trading various supplies. Zelos makes a B-line for the one he made the arrangment with, leaving Genis to look around at stuff]

[What I'm lazy about NPCing people]

[ NPCS SCHMENPCS it's not entirely necessary for this part anyway hush hush no one cares

genis has spoken to shopkeeps plenty of times, so he knows his way around a marketplace (especially a food market) - it's not hard to find a place to trade these in, though the vendors are wary, and genis almost, almost loses his temper when one of them snaps something particularly derisive, but --

-- praise martel he manages to remember logic, and all the things that dragonmama had told him, so.. he keeps it to a diplomatic dirty look and is off on his way. by the time he spots zelos again, he's managed to trade off all of the meat he'd been carrying (though mr bubbles still has some), for a nice roomy mageweave bag, some bread, fruit, and small bolt of cheap silk he's hoping he can haggle off for some books, later.. thank goodness for chatty npcs that tell you what other npcs like, eh.

anyway, he's runnin up beside you bro, good thing zelos really sticks out in a night elf crowd. sir squirt is in tow. ]

[Yeah, him sticking out is probably the understatement of the year. On top of the fact none of these elves have never seen a human before? Yeah. He's starting to think it'd be easier to just let them think he's some red dragon in a weird mortal form like several keep assuming.]

[But good for you Genis! Zelos is finished with the merchant and looking around when Genis catches up to him. He's still got a few of his meat packs left, as well as a bag that seems to be full of things]

Ha, yeah. He tried to cheat me, but I convinced him otherwise.

[You probably don't wanna know how]

What'd you get?

Something that's likely going to decline in quanity and availability, if they don't have a hold on such resources. Especially with the new neighbours. [and not those of the dragonsworn kind at that.]

[her mind's already moving forward with that, things to ask Krasus about, but she can multitask. Carolina has always been good at adapting.]

For basic things, plates, cups, probably better to use wood than pottery. Easier to replace and keep clean. Cheaper to replace. [there were things from the potter that could be useful, later.] Didn't see anything for paper or ink. Having something to make maps with, or write notes, could be useful later.

Might be worth gathering berries from the Sanctum, see if they'd be acceptable for food trade. They don't seem to have them here natively.

Probably. Not much chance we'll be able to afford their metals. [Good thing they have an armory in the Sanctum really]

[And he listens to her list those things out, picking and choosing what to speak up about] In a village this size, there might not be any paper or writing utensils.

[Considering the idea] Maybe, but we might wanna build some credibility first so they don't think we're trying to poison them with strange fruit.

[guerriera]

[she snorted faintly] They may be less developed than the worlds I'm used to, but they're not as backwater as all that. They have a full guard unit, and storage beside. [a glance up, to where a sentinel pair stood watch on one of the buildings] And they measure out their takings and distributions well enough - which means they likely have some means to record it.

As if not here, they may make orders. Bring in shipments.

[ So making nice really would have to be a priority. ]

So what would you suggest, then?

[wilder]

[he shrugs. He's really not one to argue about details like that. Whether or not these elves were literate wasn't that big a deal to him] Yeah, maybe you're right.

[He rubs the back of his neck some, thinking]

I dunno. Probably ask around what sort of favors they're looking for right now. Build some relations. The more they see us as someone useful, the more they'll want us around.

[gravitywell]

[ must be pretty strange eh zelos. but don't worry, at least genis doesn't think you look any weirder than you normally do!!

at any rate, he grins and pats his nice new bag fondly. ]

Um, mostly food.. but also some silk. Apparently the guy with the books likes it, so..

[ so he's hoping he can wrangle some good studying materials out of him ok. you an take the nerd out of aselia, but he's still gonna be a little nerd. mister bubbles still has some meat packages, but.. he might hang onto those for himself, for now. ]

Asking for proof of our sincerity makes sense. [she's not happy about it, but makes sense.] Either through items they want, or the removal of things they don't.

[Carolina had a feeling she was going to be better than the latter.]

Did you see anything that seemed to be a popular commodity?

...Heh. Not even being kidnapped and forced into a war could stop you from studying, huh?

[Same old Genis. It's not like Zelos had anything against reading, it's a good way to pass some time, but he's been pretty preoccupied with surviving to even consider getting books]

[ apparently to genis, studying and survival go hand in hand okay. ]

Well, I mean.. anything to help us learn about this world, and what's going on, is good, right? If we're going to be stuck here, I want to know everything I can.

[wilder]

Yeah, yeah- I get your point. It'd be good to know the situation.

[You're still a nerd though]

I got some cooking utensils and other odds and ends. Have you heard of anyone trading maps of the region?

[ ur face is a nerd

genis shakes his head. ]

Uh uh.. but.. the bookseller might know something about it, or they might even have maps, too.

[wilder]

[He glances around, looking at everything around.]

I see meat...I could handle killing animals!

[And that's about it]

Do you really think I could be anything else?

[ Aren't we imaginative. ]

Meat's not all that's here. [she glanced back, then casually thumbed at one stall, bedecked with furs, skins, blankets, and ornaments made with antlers and fangs and feathers.] Seems like they have a use for most things.

And what they don't eat, maybe our red patrons might appreciate instead.
