your hands protect the flames

Who: The Dragonsworn
What: The first arrival of the Dragonsworn goes a bit...awry.
Where: Scattered around the perimeter of Suramar.
When: Dawn on March 21st
Warnings: Please PM the mods if any warnings are needed

It is almost as if you've woken from a daydream when the ground meets your feet. The stench of fire is overpowering, and though dawn is just approaching in the canopies of Kalimdor, bright flashes of green can be seen between the branches of impossibly tall trees. If that doesn't snap you out of your surprise, then the sound of nearby spitting in demonic tongue may persuade you to get a grip and notice your surroundings -- you are not alone. There are others like you, huddled just a bit too close, with a somewhat familiar face keeping you from advancing further. Looking down at your hands may briefly reveal a momentary flash of color, but nothing lasting more than a few seconds.

The mages of each flight take the helm of their charges, and they are quick to notice any movement from their groups despite channeling some sort of spell to keep you protected. Stray fire will bounce off an invisible shield that ripples when anything make contact with it. There seems to be nothing in sight but your new comrades, and your guardian -- at least not on the ground. The sky has flying demons swarming a pack of dragons -- and the dragons are very clearly losing. Look just a bit farther, and you might find more dragons, though these clearly have different colored scales than the ones above your head.

While distracted, you may hear your guardian speak to you. "There may yet be wounded nearby -- if you care to, bring them here, and we will tend to them from the Sanctum." Briefly, they gesture skyward, toward the dragons flying overhead. "Do not bring to us any that are not our own, lest you invite their demise!"

But the mage is focused on casting -- they are in no position to halt your advance, and they know it. They speak with concern -- concern for you, concern for the dire situation at hand. The demonic cackling is drawing near. The forests are rapidly becoming overrun, and there are already a few dragons slain on the forest floor.

"Take care, Dragonsworn -- I am bringing us to safety, but it will take time. To wander far is to invite your ruin, and we cannot afford the loss of your life."

[OOC: You are free to mingle on this post as you choose, despite the flight groups being scattered through the forests around Suramar -- after this log, you will be separated into your sanctums, and your interactions will be watched much more closely. Attempting to enter the city itself will result in a vicious attack from demons that will kill. The Dragon Mages will be tagging sporadically to heroes of their matching flight, and the conclusion of this log will lead Dragonsworn through portals to their Sanctums.]

Zeri watched Lirael out of the corner of her eye, curious about the bells. "Sadly, no. They are forever tainted, bent on destroying all they touch." The effort of making a portal was starting to wear on her, sweat plastering blue bangs to her forehead. Dragons did not usually sweat. It was a very unsatisfactory realization. She blamed Krasus.

"I guarantee some of those demons have been turned for longer than I have been alive."

Given Lirael had absolutely no idea how long Zeri had lived, that didn't really mean much to her. "Destruction or banishment, then." This kind of threat, Lirael knew how to handle. She just wished they were Dead and not Free Magic... or whatever they were that seemed like Free Magic. The Dead, she knew where to send. Free Magic was trickier.

"What are you doing?" she finally had to ask, confused. Portals weren't something she was familiar with. "What are all those-- those bright lines for?"

Zeri mused a little at the recognition. It seemed some of the Dragonsworn's powers were finally making themselves visible. She did not smile in the fashion most people smiled; it was closer to a smirk. She didn't usually honeymoon as a night elf after all.

"I am fashioning a portal to our sanctum, the home of the Blue Dragonflight. Very soon, this forest will be overrun and we will be unable to hold them any longer. That is why we must collect the wounded and leave as soon as possible."

Not being very good with interaction in general, Lirael didn't even attempt to decipher just what a smirk meant in this situation. "Is that-- Free Magic?" It isn't Charter magic, she could tell that much, but it didn't feel like Free Magic, either. It felt like something... alien.

She didn't think she liked it. She wanted the warm, comforting feel of the Charter-- but she knew she hadn't had any luck reaching it, so far.

"Is there something else I can do?" Besides carry wounded-- as slight, one-handed girl wasn't a lot of use in that way-- and besides just keeping the air clear. Because the long-eared woman looked like this was... difficult. Zeri was really just lucky she'd started with talking, rather than throwing spells around in some other fashion than just this one, or Lirael might have taken her for a Hish or some other magical being from her own world.

"Free Magic? No, and I have not the foggiest idea of what that is. This power is the arcane. All dragons are born of it, and have some measure of skill with it." She shook her head slowly, freeing loose blue hair from her shoulders briefly. "You, too, have the potential to use it, if only in ways resembling what you are accustomed to."

The earth trembled. Something had crashed some ways off, probably some sort of demon. Zerigosa prayed it was not an Infernal. "Keep an eye on the other bluesworn. If they wander out of sight, bring them back. I will be finished soon enough."

Lirael's mouth came open briefly, then shut. She looked nervous. Telling people what to do wasn't exactly her strong point... though she did prefer to have some kind of purpose. Either way, she sounded doubtful when she answered: "I can try... and I will try to send away the-- 'demons', when I can." That was stronger. That, she felt more confident with.

She'd worry about that bit about using those strings of power later. If it had anything to do with why the Charter was gone... well, it would require a lot of questions, which she just hoped she'd find the words to ask.

"You have my thanks," Zeri said finally. While she might not normally offer such polite things (because what dragon needs help from a human), the gargantuan task set before her had taken its toll.

There were so many bluesworn, and so many of them wondering how to use their powers. She would teach them-- if they survived.

This mistake would not be repeated.

The thanks earned a tiny, shy smile from the girl, and then Lirael started off in an attempt to find... something useful to do, out of those directions.
