your hands protect the flames

Who: The Dragonsworn
What: The first arrival of the Dragonsworn goes a bit...awry.
Where: Scattered around the perimeter of Suramar.
When: Dawn on March 21st
Warnings: Please PM the mods if any warnings are needed

It is almost as if you've woken from a daydream when the ground meets your feet. The stench of fire is overpowering, and though dawn is just approaching in the canopies of Kalimdor, bright flashes of green can be seen between the branches of impossibly tall trees. If that doesn't snap you out of your surprise, then the sound of nearby spitting in demonic tongue may persuade you to get a grip and notice your surroundings -- you are not alone. There are others like you, huddled just a bit too close, with a somewhat familiar face keeping you from advancing further. Looking down at your hands may briefly reveal a momentary flash of color, but nothing lasting more than a few seconds.

The mages of each flight take the helm of their charges, and they are quick to notice any movement from their groups despite channeling some sort of spell to keep you protected. Stray fire will bounce off an invisible shield that ripples when anything make contact with it. There seems to be nothing in sight but your new comrades, and your guardian -- at least not on the ground. The sky has flying demons swarming a pack of dragons -- and the dragons are very clearly losing. Look just a bit farther, and you might find more dragons, though these clearly have different colored scales than the ones above your head.

While distracted, you may hear your guardian speak to you. "There may yet be wounded nearby -- if you care to, bring them here, and we will tend to them from the Sanctum." Briefly, they gesture skyward, toward the dragons flying overhead. "Do not bring to us any that are not our own, lest you invite their demise!"

But the mage is focused on casting -- they are in no position to halt your advance, and they know it. They speak with concern -- concern for you, concern for the dire situation at hand. The demonic cackling is drawing near. The forests are rapidly becoming overrun, and there are already a few dragons slain on the forest floor.

"Take care, Dragonsworn -- I am bringing us to safety, but it will take time. To wander far is to invite your ruin, and we cannot afford the loss of your life."

[OOC: You are free to mingle on this post as you choose, despite the flight groups being scattered through the forests around Suramar -- after this log, you will be separated into your sanctums, and your interactions will be watched much more closely. Attempting to enter the city itself will result in a vicious attack from demons that will kill. The Dragon Mages will be tagging sporadically to heroes of their matching flight, and the conclusion of this log will lead Dragonsworn through portals to their Sanctums.]

[Luke manages to brace himself just in time, so they end up NOT knocking heads. That's good. He's surprised to see the other redhead-- and relieved.]

Asch! [He straightens back up.] It's a demon. They really hate the sixth fonon, but hit 'em hard enough and it doesn't matter!

[No time to talk. The felguard's charging, and Luke runs to meet it.]

[ Ah, that's handy. It just hates the entirety of what Luke is made of. If Asch were the type to snark he might come back with something like 'not that I can blame it'.

Luckily for them both, he is not.
]

Right! [ 'Hit it hard enough' was essentially his job description for many years, so Asch finds the instructions refreshingly straight-forward. Nothing about traveling back in time and winning the Olympics and destabilizing reality in the process. Luke charges the felguard and Asch is right on his heels, though he immediately veers further to the right, seeking to both flank the monster and make it harder for it to find a target. ]

[Seriously. He's had enough of time travel. Or rather, time meddling. He's not made for that and he already knows the consequences are NEVER what you expect.

But point and shoot? Yeah, that's doable. It feels good to fight alongside Asch again. Despite his Exsilium weapon not boosting him anymore, he feels a little better with his original right there next to him. It gives him some confidence.

His sword meets the felguard's axe in a crazy flurry of sparks. Luke starts to crumble, but he regains his footing and pushes back. The distraction should be enough for Asch to score a hit or two.]

[ Asch would like to use an Arte to take care of this thing but, surprise surprise, something goes wrong. It's a situation that comes with its ups and downs. Downside is that he only gets in one strike as a result. Upside is that even though he's not expecting an Arte failure, he is prepared for it. It gives him time to make the one strike he has time to make a good one--a steady, two-handed thrust aimed for the joints in the thing's armor.

Asch doesn't stick around to see how much damage he does. He gives the blade just long enough to sink in, and then he's yanking it back out and dancing away from the Felguard--but not too far away. He wants the thing to pay attention to him so that Luke has a chance to move in closer for his own attack.

[The felguard isn't done just yet, though its movements are slow and pained as it lunges after Asch. It's just the opening that Luke needs. He gains a little air, blade whistling before it smashes into the guard's back. He follows up with a white-hot fire in his right hand, which appears to do much more against the demon than simple strikes.

The demon crumples, leaking blood in its death throes. And Luke-- well, now that he's learned he can do that fancy light thing twice, he's no less exhausted. He leans on his sword for a moment to catch his breath.]

Hah... you okay?

[ Asch isn't so arrogant that he'll dismiss the injured felguard as an easy foe, but it doesn't take much effort to stay out of its way when it lumbers after him. He stays calm as Luke finally dispatches it, but only lowers his sword once he's sure it's dead.

Then he turns his attention back to Luke. He doesn't offer a hand out to Luke as he approaches him, but he does look him over carefully.
] I'm fine. [ Anyone else might have repeated Luke's question back to him. But since it's Asch... ] What was that?

Good...

[Luke knows exactly what Asch is talking about. He straightens up carefully.]

Someone said it was called the Light. It's kind of tiring, but it works pretty well. And it's the only thing I can do, now...
