your hands protect the flames

Who: The Dragonsworn
What: The first arrival of the Dragonsworn goes a bit...awry.
Where: Scattered around the perimeter of Suramar.
When: Dawn on March 21st
Warnings: Please PM the mods if any warnings are needed

It is almost as if you've woken from a daydream when the ground meets your feet. The stench of fire is overpowering, and though dawn is just approaching in the canopies of Kalimdor, bright flashes of green can be seen between the branches of impossibly tall trees. If that doesn't snap you out of your surprise, then the sound of nearby spitting in demonic tongue may persuade you to get a grip and notice your surroundings -- you are not alone. There are others like you, huddled just a bit too close, with a somewhat familiar face keeping you from advancing further. Looking down at your hands may briefly reveal a momentary flash of color, but nothing lasting more than a few seconds.

The mages of each flight take the helm of their charges, and they are quick to notice any movement from their groups despite channeling some sort of spell to keep you protected. Stray fire will bounce off an invisible shield that ripples when anything make contact with it. There seems to be nothing in sight but your new comrades, and your guardian -- at least not on the ground. The sky has flying demons swarming a pack of dragons -- and the dragons are very clearly losing. Look just a bit farther, and you might find more dragons, though these clearly have different colored scales than the ones above your head.

While distracted, you may hear your guardian speak to you. "There may yet be wounded nearby -- if you care to, bring them here, and we will tend to them from the Sanctum." Briefly, they gesture skyward, toward the dragons flying overhead. "Do not bring to us any that are not our own, lest you invite their demise!"

But the mage is focused on casting -- they are in no position to halt your advance, and they know it. They speak with concern -- concern for you, concern for the dire situation at hand. The demonic cackling is drawing near. The forests are rapidly becoming overrun, and there are already a few dragons slain on the forest floor.

"Take care, Dragonsworn -- I am bringing us to safety, but it will take time. To wander far is to invite your ruin, and we cannot afford the loss of your life."

[OOC: You are free to mingle on this post as you choose, despite the flight groups being scattered through the forests around Suramar -- after this log, you will be separated into your sanctums, and your interactions will be watched much more closely. Attempting to enter the city itself will result in a vicious attack from demons that will kill. The Dragon Mages will be tagging sporadically to heroes of their matching flight, and the conclusion of this log will lead Dragonsworn through portals to their Sanctums.]

That was interesting.

"Can you do that for more than one demon at once?" he said, looking back to her as the demon reeled. "I can hold them off, but not while I'm dragging the injured back to safety. It would help.}

"Any I put my will towards, if they can hear the bell," Lirael answered. "I could try to bind them, but... the mage with the ears said they are already bound." And binding on top of another binding is tricky and dangerous, and she'd already been told releasing them wouldn't help.

Protecting the injured seemed like an important duty-- the mage herself had said so. So... she could help. She straightened her spine a little, nods, and said: "I will do what I can, then."

"Great! Welcome aboard! Kings or Mastery?"

As if that question made any sense at all. The elf promptly turned to head back out towards the edges of the conflict, clearly expecting her to head right along with him.

" ... Abhorsen," she said instead, looking puzzled and a little sad, not mentioning the Clayr. That wasn't her anymore. She did, however, fall in dutifully behind him, Kibeth at the ready-- though she was wondering if maybe Ranna might not be a smarter option. If the tiny bell could subdue so many.... No, best to stay with what she knew best.

"Though I have some mastery over Charter magic--" She paused to swallow hard, since she'd already discovered she couldn't reach the Charter here. "--I am not related at all to the king's line."

"As lucky as that misunderstanding was for the purpose of getting to know more about you, I was actually wondering what blessing you wanted. I am a Blood Knight, with my power drawn from the Sunwell!" He lifted a clenched fist, very melodramatically. "But if you don't have a preference..."

He gestured with that upraised hand, laying the Blessing of Kings upon the pair of them to augment their strength, speed, and wits.

Lirael could see the magic of it, the way she had with the magic in the portal, and she took a step back from it instinctively. It didn't seem to do anything obvious that she could see, though. She might have felt a bit less nervous, perhaps, but she didn't attribute that to the magic.

"What was that?" she asked, frowning and looking down at her wrist stump, as if she were examining the hand that wasn't there.

"Blessing of Kings, I told you," Mar said without any annoyance. "It's not a dramatic improvement, but every little bit counts. It's certainly better than the old days, when we Blood Knights were called upon to lay an array of blessings on ten or twenty people. It was so complicated we had to keep notes just to reference!"

Was he talking to reassure her and keep her from thinking too much about the situation, or simply because he liked his own voice? Answer: That wasn't an 'or'.

"I don't know what that is," Lirael answered automatically. She was shy, but she wasn't entirely bashful. If she didn't know something, she had no qualms about asking, if she saw no other way to learn the answer.

"What, the Blessing? It'll make you a little bit stronger, quicker, and smarter." And Mar for his part had no problems explaining. He much preferred it when people asked questions as opposed to soldiering on in ignorance, then having some disaster occur because of said ignorance.
