your hands protect the flames

Who: The Dragonsworn
What: The first arrival of the Dragonsworn goes a bit...awry.
Where: Scattered around the perimeter of Suramar.
When: Dawn on March 21st
Warnings: Please PM the mods if any warnings are needed

It is almost as if you've woken from a daydream when the ground meets your feet. The stench of fire is overpowering, and though dawn is just approaching in the canopies of Kalimdor, bright flashes of green can be seen between the branches of impossibly tall trees. If that doesn't snap you out of your surprise, then the sound of nearby spitting in demonic tongue may persuade you to get a grip and notice your surroundings -- you are not alone. There are others like you, huddled just a bit too close, with a somewhat familiar face keeping you from advancing further. Looking down at your hands may briefly reveal a momentary flash of color, but nothing lasting more than a few seconds.

The mages of each flight take the helm of their charges, and they are quick to notice any movement from their groups despite channeling some sort of spell to keep you protected. Stray fire will bounce off an invisible shield that ripples when anything make contact with it. There seems to be nothing in sight but your new comrades, and your guardian -- at least not on the ground. The sky has flying demons swarming a pack of dragons -- and the dragons are very clearly losing. Look just a bit farther, and you might find more dragons, though these clearly have different colored scales than the ones above your head.

While distracted, you may hear your guardian speak to you. "There may yet be wounded nearby -- if you care to, bring them here, and we will tend to them from the Sanctum." Briefly, they gesture skyward, toward the dragons flying overhead. "Do not bring to us any that are not our own, lest you invite their demise!"

But the mage is focused on casting -- they are in no position to halt your advance, and they know it. They speak with concern -- concern for you, concern for the dire situation at hand. The demonic cackling is drawing near. The forests are rapidly becoming overrun, and there are already a few dragons slain on the forest floor.

"Take care, Dragonsworn -- I am bringing us to safety, but it will take time. To wander far is to invite your ruin, and we cannot afford the loss of your life."

[OOC: You are free to mingle on this post as you choose, despite the flight groups being scattered through the forests around Suramar -- after this log, you will be separated into your sanctums, and your interactions will be watched much more closely. Attempting to enter the city itself will result in a vicious attack from demons that will kill. The Dragon Mages will be tagging sporadically to heroes of their matching flight, and the conclusion of this log will lead Dragonsworn through portals to their Sanctums.]

*Geddoe's been on enough battlefields that seeing someone who appears to be dazed or disoriented isn't exactly a surprise. Admittedly, suddenly finding himself in the middle of a combat zone in another world had been a bit of a shock, but it was one he'd been able to push to the back of his mind to deal with later, when there wasn't a risk of getting killed at a moments notice. All of which means his first instinct upon seeing someone so clearly lost and confused is to get them out of danger*

Hey, you. Go stay near the mage maintaining a protective barrier.

*...short and to the point, but in his experience people in a state of confusion respond better to orders than to reasoning*

[His voice gets her attention, and she looks up, eyes coming back into focus. She isn't all that inexperienced when it comes to waking up in another world, but given everything that's transpired in the last week, and the suddenness of it all, Saori feels somewhat entitled.

Her hand strays down near her sword, palm resting on the hilt in a warning gesture. In case she has to attempt to defend herself, she'll make an attempt at it, even with the haze. She doesn't say a word for a long moment, instead just staring at the stranger. Finally, it does dawn on her that she's being ridiculously rude.]

Who are you?

[Not that that's much better.]

Geddoe.

*doesn't ask her name; frankly he doesn't care right now. He notices the movement of her hand to her sword, but makes no move either aggressive or defensive on his part in response*

Don't just stand there unless you want to get yourself killed.

*does he have any real authority to be giving orders? Not really, beyond the simple merit of being the one who isn't in a daze of confusion right now. Does that matter to him? Not one bit, he'll do what he has to to get something done*

Geddoe...

[She mouths the name, her posture straightening somewhat. It's not that she doubts his authority, it's just a jolt being told what to do.]

Right...I...right.

[Her hand lowers to her side and she looks back at the battle raging in the distance, taking a few steps backwards, like she's noticing it for the very first time.]

Are these dragons your allies?

[May as well ask, since, while it may not be the best time or even a smart question, it's better to know. If he's working with the demons down below...there's a problem.]

*just gives a shrug at that question*

I don't know yet. I'm told they are.

*obviously, he's not the type to just take information from a stranger at their word, though for the moment, at least, it's a reasonable enough assumption to work with*
windandrain: (Dangerous look)

[She frowns, her head shaking.]

At least they seem to be doing a good job with containing those demons.

[Talking is helping, and she seems to be growing more confident, focused, and alert.]

Do you have any idea where we are?
lightningbearer: (just talking)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2014-03-23 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

*to judge from his apparent tone, he doesn't particularly care, either.... which isn't strictly true, though close enough for the moment, given that he's pushed such concerns to the back of his mind to focus on more immediate ones. As long as he can get out of this battle alive, after all, he'll have plenty of time to sort out the details later*

[She's not surprised, the man seems so taciturn, but that doesn't stop her curiosity. Weakened she may feel but she's still under the assumption that whatever is suppressing her hasn't unmade her divinity completely. And with those damnable wings gone, it's one less vulnerability to deal with.]

No. It's not Luceti. [But that's more to herself than anything.]

Have you seen anything like this before? [She gestures towards the battle, obviously meaning such. His eye and demeanor alone mark him as some manner of soldier.]
lightningbearer: (considering it)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2014-03-23 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
*he's never heard of this "Luceti", so he has nothing to say to that remark. As to the battle, however...*

More or less.

*the several wars he's fought in in his long life aside, he had just recently come from after the end of a battle in which the enemy summoned legions of otherworldly monsters to fight, after all*

[She eyes him skeptically, unsure of how to take it. Monsters and dragons at war with one another is certainly something she hadn't expected to see when she woke up. A friend's face, the inside of a shower, and a long walk home were decidedly not this.]

At least we're not directly involved. I've had enough of being forced into battle.

[And she means that wholeheartedly. The Third Party was something of a nightmare.]

lightningbearer: (serious face)

[personal profile] lightningbearer 2014-03-23 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see.

*just being suddenly dumped onto a battlefield is pretty near close enough to being "directly involved" for his liking*

No point in standing around, though.

*if she's recovered her senses, after all, as far as he's concerned there's no need for him to continue keeping an eye out*
windandrain: (Mild)

[personal profile] windandrain 2014-03-23 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No. No, I suppose not.

[She shakes her head and looks over at the battle. Her expression grows somewhat sardonic, her voice dry.]

The last day has been a trial, and with all this I lost my head. Along with my manners. My name is Saori, and for what it's worth, thank you.
lightningbearer: (hardly a word spoken)

*just nods in acknowledgement, then turns to continue on his own way. Clearly he's not one who cares much for exchanging pleasantries, especially in the middle of a battlefield, and since she seems to be fine now there's no real reason for him to stick around*
windandrain: (Tentative)

[personal profile] windandrain 2014-03-23 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods back, continuing on her way as well, but much more alert now.]
