A: COOKING FIRE SHENANIGANS

Feeling peckish? Have a delivery to make? Or just want to try your own hand at serving up some grub? The Redsworn's usual cooking area has been expanded for the evening, with two extra firepits dug out to cater for additional mouths. Over one fire burns the now "traditional" starter meat of bear flank, something any newly sworn (red or otherwise) will have the pleasure of sampling first. There's also several baskets of berries, fruit and vegetables, while a pot obtained in trade from Silverglen bubbles merrily.

B: FIRESIDE MINGLE

The redsworn of the Ruby Sanctum have claimed a corner of their own beneath one of the larger trees. There's a smaller fire here set for warmth and ambience, and have logs set about for seating for those who don't like perching on rocks or roots, or don't find the comfy grass comfy - park yourself and have a chat!

That would be a reasonable assumption.

[And finally, he turns his complete attention to the man.] And you're a Redsworn, I take it? I don't see things dying left and right as you walk through here.

[lightningbearer]

Blue, actually. But they seem fine if you don't stay in one place long.

[traitre]

[Qilby arches a brow. Blues. Apparently they'll plague him wherever he goes.]

Surely they don't expect an old man like me to be constantly on the move in their sanctum. [But then again, they don't expect a Blacksworn to be in it at all-- and he knows it.

He clears his throat.] A Bluesworn, then. How may I help you?

[lightningbearer]

You're one of the Blacks, right? I've heard your flight's on good terms with the elves in Silverglen, and was wondering if you had any ideas of how to get on their good side.

[traitre]

[He cants his head.] I am.

To tell you the truth, much of our flight's success with the elves was by simple virtue of the fact that we aren't Blues. [Another smile -- to show he's joking -- but his tone is sympathetic.] We were told that certain members of your flight were causing trouble for them. As a result, they turned to us for help. We were not on the best terms before this-- but a kind gesture goes a long way, and since then they've found our assistance to be invaluable.

[He rubs his chin thoughtfully.] My advice? I would first deal with the dissenters in your own flight. Everything else will follow.

[lightningbearer]

I heard something about that, but I wasn't really around for it...

*so obviously he'd be sketchy on the details of whatever happened, right?*

I thought that was supposed to be settled now, though?

[traitre]

[His mild look of surprise is convincing enough.]

Had it? All the better, then. We certainly don't need anyone undermining our attempts to make allies of the locals.

[A sigh and a little shrug.] Still, these sorts of things are rarely one-time offenses. All of us must be vigilant for further interference from these troublemakers.

[lightningbearer]

*an indifferent shrug*

That's what I was told.

I'll keep that in mind.

[traitre]

I'm glad to be of service.

[A pause, and then he adds coolly--] And so how was it you heard about me?

[lightningbearer]

I was talking to one of the Greens. Rose, I think it was. She pointed you out when I said I wanted to know if Black or Bronze knew anything about getting on better terms with the elves.

*...which is all true, of course, but he doesn't mention the fact that he'd already heard about Qilby from Jacques....*

[traitre]

And I'm the go-to for such matters? [A little snort.] I suppose that's flattering. Some things just don't change.

[Rose... That was the woman operating during the mess at Sin'thalas. A loud, bossy sort -- Qilby did not care for her very much (not that there are many people for whom he does.) Apparently he'd made an impression on her. He's just not certain what that impression was, or what it means for him now.

At the very least it means he has to deal with nosy Blues.] You obviously know me-- but I know nothing of you, save for your allegiance. [He smiles.] Do you mean to represent your flight at Silverglen?

[lightningbearer]

You're the one who was here.

*just shrugs*

Geddoe.

*at least he's assuming Qilby was asking after his name in a roundabout way. If he's wrong, well, he doesn't particularly care*

There elves there probably have more goods than what the dragons give us, so I'd like to see if they'd trade with me.

[traitre]

Understandable. A war's not won without resources.

If people in your own flight are holding you back from trading with the elves-- have you considered allying yourself with a flight in better standing?

[lightningbearer]

*raising an eyebrow*

I don't think they'd let us just change flights.

[traitre]

[Qilby has to fight not to roll his eyes.] Not join. Ally.

There is precious little inter-flight cooperation as it is. It takes a huge incident like the one at Sin'thalas to get us to work with one another, for Goddess's sake. A gathering like this is a step in the right direction-- [And he gives Geddoe a stern look.] But both of us know that most people here are more concerned with sizing up their opposition than building bridges between them.

Perhaps it's time to start working together.

[lightningbearer]

*probably wouldn't have cared if Qilby had rolled his eyes.... especially since he may have made the remark like that deliberately. Not that he'd exactly be very expressive about it either way*

What are you proposing?

[traitre]

Right now, I'm proposing to speak to someone who does mean to represent his flight. [He's not interested in gaining just one Dragonsworn, after all.] Unless you've changed your mind, that is?

[lightningbearer]

If I said yes, how would you know the others would listen to me?

*oh look he's being clever*

[traitre]

Well, if you're so intent on getting my flight's help with the elves, I would expect you to make them listen.

[He glances over at the larger group near the fire, attention apparently wandering.] If not, perhaps you're able to introduce me to someone who is.

[lightningbearer]

You speak for your entire flight, then?

[traitre]

I do.

[It's the first real lie he's told the entire conversation, and he doesn't even bat an eye. Perhaps he doesn't quite yet speak for his flight officially, but saying "yes" sounds a lot better than "not really, but I think I'm the most qualified person for it if I do say so myself."

Besides. If he keeps doing what he's doing, surely that's what will happen. An arched brow.] After all -- we don't have any renegades running around loose.

[Second lie.]

*Geddoe has no way of knowing either way, so he's not questioning it... just making mental note of it should an opportunity to follow up on it later arise*

I don't like that kind of responsibility.

*which is, believe it or not, an entirely genuine sentiment*

But I'll think about it.

*...well, he'll think about all of this conversation, but that's beside the point*

Not everyone is fit to lead. [And doesn't he know it? He sounds utterly unsurprised (and maybe a little satisfied) as if he'd ultimately expected that reaction.

His smile is perhaps a bit too understanding, to compensate.] But yes-- something to consider. Something for your entire flight to consider now, I suppose.

You may find me in Silverglen most days when you -- or someone else -- is ready to talk about this further.

*aaand he turns to go since clearly this conversation is over... then suddenly pauses as though he's just remembered or thought of something and turns back*

If I need to contact you and can't find you, how would I recognize someone from your flight to pass on a message?
