[OPEN] The Redsworn Reception

Who: The Redsworn of Ruby Sanctum + Guests [OPEN TO ALL FLIGHTS]
What: Carolina The Redsworn have invited everyone to dinner! Let's see how well diplomatic relations between the flights can be improved, eh?
Where: The Ruby Sanctum
When: Forward dated to 6th June.
Warnings: Fires, food poisoning cooking for all, shenanigans, possible bad language.
OOC: Come gets some cross-flight CR! c: Some setting options below the cut, or go ahead and make your own.

A: COOKING FIRE SHENANIGANS
Feeling peckish? Have a delivery to make? Or just want to try your own hand at serving up some grub? The Redsworn's usual cooking area has been expanded for the evening, with two extra firepits dug out to cater for additional mouths. Over one fire burns the now "traditional" starter meat of bear flank, something any newly sworn (red or otherwise) will have the pleasure of sampling first. There's also several baskets of berries, fruit and vegetables, while a pot obtained in trade from Silverglen bubbles merrily.

B: FIRESIDE MINGLE
The redsworn of the Ruby Sanctum have claimed a corner of their own beneath one of the larger trees. There's a smaller fire here set for warmth and ambience, and have logs set about for seating for those who don't like perching on rocks or roots, or don't find the comfy grass comfy - park yourself and have a chat!

C: OPEN/MISC.
Choose Your Own Adventure! Just remember: wander alone at your own risk, non-redsworn, for the Red Dragonflight will have their eye on you.

[She holds up one hand in correction. It's good to have someone asking about these things, but clearly she missed explaining something.]

No... and yes. There are warlocks who sacrifice themselves for their magic, and they may sacrifice pieces of their souls if they so choose. And there are warlocks who sacrifice others - innocents - to fuel their spells.

[Her voice peters out, and she looks down at a spot on the ground near her hooves. There's just no getting around that part of fel magic, even if Maridian asked them all to not judge warlocks too harshly.]
amygdalae: its going to drop eventually (waiting for that other shoe)

[Its fine correcting him. Unlike some other genius, Bruce doesn't have that much of an ego (or rather he had, and it didn't get him anywhere).

He frowns a bit at the last part. Considering what he knows so far of the nature of fel magic, its not too surprising. He's not a fantasy buff back home, but it makes sense all the same. Energy has to come from somewhere after all; it couldn't just be made randomly from thin air. Law of conservation of energy, and all that.]

There still has to be an energy source, then, from where the caster draws the magic from to cast it.
telaari: (not as planned)

Yes, well, now you are talking about the Arcane.

[She tries to put on her best smile for him. The Arcane has been a part of them for as long as anyone can remember, but learning all the Common terms for it was never a priority.]

I am sorry, I do not know how to explain in this language. Like... you know how ice melts, and it becomes water? Or steam, if it's boiled? Mana does something like that, and mages draw out the energy from the change.
amygdalae: remember that you are human (memento mori.)

/pretends to be actually an expert in science when I failed it

[The... Arcane? That sounds like something that's way over his head, but as he listens it actually doesn't seem that bad. In fact, its almost like something he knows very well - except applied differently. Quite differently.]

Yes, I do. In my world, they call it 'phase transition'. [Though it is a catch all phrase, but it applies here, at least. Bruce thinks about it a bit more to try and phase this in a term he can understand better.] So the energy from the reaction is what is being used, if I understand this correctly.

[She touches her chin, rolling her pupil-less eyes to the sky as if looking for divine inspiration.]

Phase transition...? Yes, I think that sounds correct.

[She looks back to him, frowning slightly.]

Sadly, that is all I can tell you. I am a scholar of the Light, not of the Arcane. Perhaps your Dragonmage can tell you more about it.
amygdalae: (oh look there's wally.)

[Bruce hadn't been expecting to know everything at once, of course. That would be a little far fetched. But still, what he has been told here is appreciated, and Bruce inclines his head as he speaks.]

I will do that when I return, then. [His last conversation had been pleasant enough, at least, though Bruce suspects he won't be able to learn much.] Thank you for this, though. It is very helpful.

You are quite welcome.

[The warmth in her voice is genuine, even if her smile doesn't quite reach her eyes. Maybe if she'd paid more attention to Morou and his studies, she could tell him more. Alas.]

[She looks him over again, searching for something less depressing to dwell on.]

You were one of the captured Dragonsworn, weren't you?
amygdalae: (I'm listening)

[personal profile] amygdalae 2014-06-20 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[The question takes him by surprise a little, though he also shouldn't be surprised either. Quite a number of them had been taken, after all.]

Yes, I was. [He replies with a nod.]

Ah, sorry. I thought you seemed familiar, but I'm not very good at remembering human faces.

[She extends her hand in the Stormwind way of greeting.]

Vastania, of the Aldor.
amygdalae: I wish things could go your way (is that what you think?)

[personal profile] amygdalae 2014-06-29 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, considering that he spent most of his time in a corner while captive, Bruce can't blame anybody for not remembering him. In fact, he prefers that.

Bruce takes the hand and shakes it, introducing himself back in return.]
Bruce Banner. But Bruce is just fine.
