[OPEN] NO MORE BEAR MEAT
Who: Zelos and YOU
What: Sick of hanging around the Sanctum (and bear meat), Zelos decides to head out
Where: Silverglen Retreat
When: Todayish?
Warnings: Swearing and violence most likely
[A. Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO RED, BRONZE AND GREEN FLIGHTS.]
[It seriously hadn't taken long for Zelos to be sick of hanging around the Sanctum and training all the time. Being kept somewhere for his safekeeping had never sat well with him, after all. So he worked on learning about the other areas from the dragons. Sure, most places in the area seemed to want to happily kill him- but it sounded like Silverglen Retreat would be alright for a first stop!]
[Especially if he wanted to get food that wasn't flame-cooked bear meat.]
[And so, ignoring warnings of how it was dangerous outside, he headed out to Silverglen Retreat. He made it there without incident, and once he proved he was a Redsworn, he was allowed in with only wary staresm - which was something he was used to anyway.]
[His hair probably makes him for an easy person to spot in the marketplace, and currently he's wandering the stalls trying to figure out how to get supplies in a trade-based economy when your life skills are well, limited, to say the least.]
[B. Forest outside Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO ALL.]
[Eventually it seemed some elf decided to throw him a bone (or just get to stop hitting on their daughters for stuff) and made an arrangement that if he brought back a number of stag flanks- they'd give him some supplies he needed. Which hey, he could do that! He could fight, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?]
[Except, for one problem your character might come across, as he kneels over a stag that's clearly been killed by fire and sword cuts - a look of frustrated confusion very clear on his face]
Damn...where's the flank again?

Damn...where's the flank again?
no subject
[But at the response, he gives a little shrug]
Oh, I got bored of hanging around the Sanctum. Can only sniff flowers for so many hours, you know?
See anything interesting?
no subject
And avoid being roped into cutting up more bear meat.
[Not that she blames him - only so many ways to roast it, and they are rather lacking in pots and pans for stew right now. The corner of her mouth quirked slightly in amusement, at least.]
I'm not sure what I expected, to be honest. [perhaps hanging out with red dragons gave her different expectations] The armor and weapons are certainly beautifully made. How about you?
no subject
Don't talk about the bear meat. I'm trying to repress the memories.
[Since seriously, he is so sick of eating that meat. It was getting harder and harder not to whine about it]
Are they? I haven't looked at them. I was busy looking at other supplies but...I'm not sure I got anything good to trade with.
no subject
[ There's a very faint huff of breath, something that might pass as amusement, before Carolina turns away from the smithy and looks back to the market proper. She won't deny that non-bear meat sounds really appealing right now. ]
Most of the armor and weapons back home are made for function over form right now. [mention of 'trade' gets a blink, then a frown] Makes sense, I haven't seen much in the way of currency changing hands. None that we'd recognise at least. What sort of things were you looking at specifically?
no subject
[He gives a little shrug] Oh you know, food, pots and pans, a bedroll, changes of clothes...maybe a hairbrush.
[Okay more like definitely a hairbrush]
no subject
Bare essentials then. Though I've slept on worse without a bedroll before. [Really, the Sanctum was quite idyllic that way] Different people are going to want different things for trade.. But it wouldn't hurt to have some of those other items.
[She wasn't going to say anything, but your hair is looking a little wooly there, Kaneis.]
no subject
So have I, but doesn't mean I don't want some comfort. [Zelos really wasn't a fan of toughing things out to prove himself. Maybe it's because from being a healer who treated fighters- he knew it didn't make you a better soldier. Or maybe it was just because deep down, he was still that rich kid who enjoyed comfort where he could get it. Either way.] Well I hope those different people find a means to trade with. Cooking and food I can help, but I'm already got enough to look after.
no subject
Could trade recipes, I suppose. [She doesn't sound like she's joking?] Not sure I have any crafting skills for trade that'd be of any use here. [downside of career military upbringing -- and being from the space age] But finding things for trading...
[After a moment's consideration, Carolina stepped forwards, stepped away, leaving Zelos behind or to follow as he wished. Now was the time to pay very close attention to the more popular bartering exchanges.]
no subject
Ha. Yeah. [He could teach them the fine art of SANDWICHES!! And curry]
[But he could relate to her sentiment. The only things he were really good at her flirting and killing things. But before he could answer, she steps away. Curiously, he starts to follow her, seeing what she's doing]
no subject
[ I dunno, curry sounds kinda good right now. Could it make bear meat more edible? Whatever the case, they don't seem to be lacking in time for learning about these things... ]
[ Carolina never flirted much before, and certainly had no reason to now. All business all the time. But she's aware of what she can do, what she can't do, what she was made to be. And those skills in her possession don't necessarily translate well in Azeroth when it came to matters of money and trade. And yet..
Carolina's aware Zelos is following, and occasionally she gives him an annoyed look if he moves in too close; not his fault if she stops abruptly, however, but mostly, she's looking at the goods available, and exactly what if anything gets traded over. What do the cloth vendors favour? The jewellery was pretty but pointless to her eyes - what good would that do them, exactly? - but the potters and metalsmiths that handled trade goods had certain items they favoured over others.
Eventually, she steps away, thoughtful, coming to a stop on the steps leading out of town. ]
[murmured] Where do they find metals around here.
no subject
[He does keep his distance when he's following her. He's partly observing the town, gathering what info he can- but he's also observing her. What she's interested by, what she isn't. To a guy like him, knowing anything he can about the people that were supposedly his comrades was just important as knowing the rest of the situation.]
[Her question though, surprises him. His world is also one that still uses smiths and limited metals, so the answer is simple]
Hm? They probably probably mine it from any surface deposit they can. Or just in mines if they're lucky enough to have any around.
no subject
[her mind's already moving forward with that, things to ask Krasus about, but she can multitask. Carolina has always been good at adapting.]
For basic things, plates, cups, probably better to use wood than pottery. Easier to replace and keep clean. Cheaper to replace. [there were things from the potter that could be useful, later.] Didn't see anything for paper or ink. Having something to make maps with, or write notes, could be useful later.
Might be worth gathering berries from the Sanctum, see if they'd be acceptable for food trade. They don't seem to have them here natively.
no subject
[And he listens to her list those things out, picking and choosing what to speak up about] In a village this size, there might not be any paper or writing utensils.
[Considering the idea] Maybe, but we might wanna build some credibility first so they don't think we're trying to poison them with strange fruit.
no subject
As if not here, they may make orders. Bring in shipments.
[ So making nice really would have to be a priority. ]
So what would you suggest, then?
no subject
[He rubs the back of his neck some, thinking]
I dunno. Probably ask around what sort of favors they're looking for right now. Build some relations. The more they see us as someone useful, the more they'll want us around.
no subject
[Carolina had a feeling she was going to be better than the latter.]
Did you see anything that seemed to be a popular commodity?
no subject
I see meat...I could handle killing animals!
[And that's about it]
no subject
Meat's not all that's here. [she glanced back, then casually thumbed at one stall, bedecked with furs, skins, blankets, and ornaments made with antlers and fangs and feathers.] Seems like they have a use for most things.
And what they don't eat, maybe our red patrons might appreciate instead.
[ surely even dragons got sick of bear too. ]
no subject
Patrons now, huh? That's a nice way to put it.
no subject
If you have a more suitable name to call them, here, where we are only welcome on sufferance because of our allegiance? [she fixed him with a look] Then by all means, share with the class.
no subject
[Thoughtfully rubs his chin] Though so far they haven't been the worst people to try, so maybe I'll be nice and just call them Keepers instead of Kidnappers.
no subject
[ And Carolina isn't completely convinced she does.
(She doesn't see what she can offer them when she's apparently no longer needed on her own world, dead or not -- save her ability to fight, and she wasn't even the best at that anymore.)
She does snort very faintly, eyes crinkling at the corners in sudden, rare amusement at the alternate name choice however. ]
That works. Not sure they're the most effective babysitters I've ever met, though.
no subject
[So troublesome. And he snorts]
Why? What's wrong with them- didn't any of your caretakers drag you into the middle of a battle and give you raw bear meat for dinner?
no subject
No. Mine fired the primary cannon of our ship to blow up a 100 storey building. While me and my team were still on it. [She's a touch deadpan, but entirely serious. Though the humour seems to fade from her eyes in the telling, with the memory.] It was something of a long fall.
no subject
[He...was not expecting that! But wow that sounds awful, even if he only has a basic grasp of what a cannon is. To get that sort of betrayal from someone whose supposed to look after you. This would be the time to say something nice, right?]
Wow. Sounds like a shitty guy.
[....Or painfully blunt. Whatever!]
