Quest Log: Suit Up!

Who: Dragon mages and dragonsworn.
What: You have been given a quest to infiltrate Sin'thalas and rescue your fellow dragonsworn. Also discussion of scrying orbs.
Where: The sanctums.
When: May 4th and ongoing for a week.
Warnings: Please PM the mods if needed.

Despite the chaos surrounding the disappearances of several Dragonsworn, your sanctum's dragon mage is trying to be calm about this. After a brief discussion behind the scenes with the others, he or she has returned.

"Gather 'round, I have some grave news. Several Dragonsworn have gone missing. We found them, but we are unable to rescue them by ourselves. It would look very bad if dragons were to attack a settlement. That is why we are asking you for help.

"Southeast of Suramar is a village named Sin'thalas. It is these elves who have taken and imprisoned the Dragonsworn. Whether you negotiate or use force to ensure the return of your brethren, it will not be easy. These elves are highly-trained and knowledgeable, far from the refugees you may have seen in the Retreat.

"In light of this, we have implemented a system to communicate over great distances." The dragon mage unveils a magical orb nearby, the perfect size for gazing. "This is a scrying orb. Approach it and think of Sin'thalas, and you will be seen and heard from the orb at that location. It also works in reverse. This should allow us to coordinate our movements depending on the flow of the situation.

"I urge you to think carefully about how best to retrieve your fellow Dragonsworn. You are yet a small force and highly outnumbered. We cannot afford to lose any of you."

[ooc: If characters want to use the orbs, [community profile] lookingformore is now OPEN. Remember, orbs CANNOT connect from sanctum to sanctum!]

"Lord of Time?" it comes out as a sneer and for a moment his skeleton flares into view as his energy twists and slots out of place from the sudden whiplash of emotions.

You have got to be kidding him. He knows Caliborn is of a different universe; he has to be, because there's no goddamn way that this little imp is a Time Lord of his universe.

While Caliborn looks proud, the Master's reaction is anything but. "I feel insulted."

"I value my life perfectly well, I'm just saying it's worth less than theirs and no one would be sad if I got captured or killed." That was an important distinction. Mar generally did his best to stay alive in the near-suicidal situations he constantly found himself in. He usually succeeded too! (Okay, there was that one time, but Terenas Menethil totally had his back.)

He glanced in Kaneis's direction, much more savvy to his unspoken reasons than he intended to let on. "If you traded me for the Vindicator, you'd still have someone who could help. As for what we need the ability to do... We won't know what we want until we begin talking to them." He was going to save the point that if they really wanted to convince the Kaldorei that the Legion needed to be met with a united front, they shouldn't send the person who refused to join the fight to convince them.

"I do have to make one point in my favor, though, which is that I probably have the best chance of anyone of understanding what they're saying."

[When Zelos acknowledges her, she straightens just a little.]

We don't really have any idea of what we're charging into. I can send Valor to scope out the city -- find out where they're holding everyone.

[Upon hearing his name, Valor quits his task and looks up between Quinn and Zelos, ruffling his wings in acknowledgement.]

We could use him to communicate with them too, but I wouldn't be comfortable with that risk until we were ready to make a move. It'd ruin our advantage.

Honestly, he half expected the Master to flat-out not take him seriously. He doesn't need other people boosting his specialness and ego to be convinced unflinchingly of his own greatness and future accomplishments, and others underestimating him seems like it would make the dying look on their faces all the more entertaining.

But insulted?

Good enough, Caliborn guesses.

"That's a weird reaction, but okay, bro. Why the hell not."

Wow, Caliborn, it's great that he doesn't know your thoughts, because he would flat out punch you right now.

Instead, he continues to seethe, his hands curling into fists at his sides.

"There is only one other person I recognize as a Time Lord, aside from myself, and he's in another flight."

"They can keep theirs and the one we lost, then. That gives us reason not to participate." As if it'd work like that.

His real question makes her pause, though. The Master is-- a weird guy. Strangeness probably isn't grounds to exclude someone from honesty, though. "Any perception of us should be based on our true strength." There isn't much of that to speak of yet, sure, but still. "Not lies."

Having someone or something to survey the location would be beneficial.

[ She remembers Quinn from when she first arrived, though neither woman had had much reason to interact again there after. Until now. Carolina moves closer, arms dropping to remain at her sides, one fist propping against her hip. ]

How much information can he convey to you? [smart bird looks smart, but she's not sure he speaks people]

I'm just saying it's worth less than theirs and no one would be sad if I got captured or killed.

Zelos froze when he heard that remark. If Maridian said anything more, Zelos didn't hear it. He was too stuck on those words, too lost in his own memories. Words so similar to ones he's said, ones he's thought himself. It was his reasoning behind all the mistakes he made, the choices he can never made back.

Even if he barely knew this guy, even if he wasn't his biggest fan, it felt like a slap on the face, a cold douse of water. It was wrong to hear them said, far too wrong and twisted and he could guess the meaning about them.

Maybe if he was Colette or Lloyd, he could speak up with some rousing speech about how it's wrong to think that way. He could almost imagine Colette shaking her little fists while there was concern in her eyes.

Unfortunately, Zelos was neither of those two. Zelos was a screwed up guy with a lack of social grace and more self-hatred than anyone should ever had.Which poor Maridian, had done the worst thing possible: Reminded Zelos of himself.

And so suddenly, not inhumanly suddenly, but fast enough- there's a fist flying at Mar's face. And then he starts yelling.

"YOU STUPID JACKASS! Don't say shit like that! No life is worth less than anyone else's! Just shut up already!"

Enough.

[She does a good job of hiding her smirk -- she and Valor had a bond most other people didn't understand, but she is certain Valor will do the talking for her.

And sure enough, the eagle seems to recognize that Carolina is talking about him. He caws and waddles over to her, nudging her nearby hand with his head, simultaneously opening his beak in expectation.]

We're used to this kind of work.

"That might be, but it's inevitable that we are going to get hurt. If not with these elves, than with the Burning Legion. It's just how things go," Rose replied.

"So, my plan right now is to get suited up with the armory, get some provisions together and then we're going to go set up a camp at that orb before the other fights get around to it." She gave a cocky little smile. "And then I'm going to let the other flights know just how generous the Green Flight is."

"Morpheus also said the dragon mages set up that orb outside Sin'thalas so we could talk to the other flights, and it's relatively safe from the elves." Rose ginned. "Think you can be ready in a hour to go set up camp there and be the first Flight on site?"

She had been ready to retort to Maridian. She had a valid argument but that went right out of the window. It seemed Kaneis had other plans. She couldn't stop him from striking, that wasn't something she was prepared to react to by a long shot. What she can do is go over to him and gently rest a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, hey. Take a deep breath. We're all in this together. We're not letting each other die or run off to do anything stupid, okay? We'll get through this." Maybe it a good thing she had been a Peacekeeper and a mother. It made her more understanding to his actions even if she didn't completely agree with them.

"He does have a point. We're not here to let someone sacrifice themselves and we're not placing that option on the table right now. Not to mention we can't afford to have only one person talking to them." She was certain that between the lot of them that it would be a terrible idea. She didn't think either of them was going to be able to handle it and she couldn't slip off to try and do it herself. There had to be some sort of happy medium somewhere.

The blow, completely... okay. Not completely unexpected. Mar has expected something like that for some time. But he wasn't prepared for it, was the upshot, so it rocked him back on his heels. Nothing more; he wasn't a Blood Knight Master, a protection paladin, for nothing. He took a step back, blinking, before he lifted a hand to rub his chin.

He really had no response to Kaneis, because... well, he was wrong, plain and simple. Mar had deliberately set the value of his life below that of anyone else's when he first took up the sword and shield of the Blood Knights. The very act itself had been a sacrifice of part of himself, made when he chose to accept power drained from a naaru, and though that part had been made whole later, that didn't change the fact that he stood in front and took the hits so others didn't.

It was a choice.

The social dynamic here had just taken a very weird turn here, one he didn't believe, because seriously, if the Kaldorei showed up at the Sanctum and offered to trade Vas for him, he didn't believe for a second these two wouldn't be all over the offer.

"As.. optimistic as it is to think that the first person to approach them won't be captured or feathered with arrows," he said, gradually getting his verbal feet back under him, "the fact is that said first person is in danger and might very well be in trouble. Suppose I carried a flag of truce to where they could see it and waited for a response. If it's an attack, I have the best chance of surviving it of the three of us." He banged a fist on his chest, emphasizing the solid armor that covered it. "If it's capture, then my life's in no more danger than the rest of them. If they're willing to talk, I explain that I'm just one of the party and everyone else who's there to talk comes out."

....Oh crap, he had actually done that, hadn't he?

His eyes widen and he suddenly feels like he he's been caught redhanded doing something severally crazy. Partly because he had and there was Valamia trying to calm him down because he really had just done something like that.

And with that realization of sanity, he loses his steam. His shoulders slump and he backs away embarrassed, because he really didn't want to be caught doing something crazy.

"Sorry..." it comes out muttered, almost sheepish.

Jeez, he hated when he got emotional. Time to try to focus on , right?

"There's more than just the three of us, you know. Shouldn't we see who else...is willing to go?"

He himself is kinda hoping the earth swallows him whole before anyone asks about his little freak out.

Valamia considers for a moment trying to pull him aside to make sure he's okay. She takes a second to give his shoulder a small squeeze. It wasn't so much for comfort as it was for reassurance. She may not know personally his story but she did understand his reasoning for acting out. "We can't send people who can't speak their language. Not unless we know we can all speak the same language. It'd hinder the process."

Now Mar, she wanted to point out various flaws in that logic. She could name a few but she does try not to shoot them all down. "I imagine a man carry a flag in full armor would warrant a chase away from their city, not welcome the idea of negotiating. Considering for a moment that they have Vastania, they may have taken in interest in the Draenei." Which meant that there was one good push for her to go. "If that's the case should I approach them, it should at least get me in, if that is their interest. As my power is also no reliant on a weapon...I should be able to keep myself from dying fairly easily."
seesbosscrotch: (approval)

[personal profile] seesbosscrotch 2014-05-05 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"No need to apologize." Mar gave a somewhat awkward wave of one hand to dismiss the notion. Really, he didn't feel like it was anything untoward. If anything, he was just surprised it hadn't come sooner.

To Vala, he said with downright heroic suppression of a wry look, "Without any desire to offend, I have to point out that if they've taken an interest in the Draenei, it's because of the eredar, in which case if you're the first to approach them, they might just think it's an attack. I think that they know that we don't know their intentions, and I think they will understand the necessity of arms and armor from a peaceful envoy, especially given how thoroughly we're outnumbered here. They and we both know where the advantage lies."

Also good to note, he supposed, if he ever had to get in contact with anyone else. As much of a trend as it was becoming, Jacques nodded again, hesitating before he offered a more verbal response to accompany it.

     "Yeah. Should be ready then."

"Good. I'll grab you when it's time to go." Rose started toward the armory, but paused. "Oh, if you can use any of your flight abilities, now would be a good time to mention it."
wilder: (hey that's great)

[personal profile] wilder 2014-05-05 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[he considers and nods. He doesn't know much about using animals for this sort of stuff other than Sheena's summon spirits, but it seemed like a good idea]

It's definitely worth a shot. The more we know, the better.
stormcalling: (You're denying your only wish)

[personal profile] stormcalling 2014-05-05 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're brave, patient and not stupid. If they are interested in eredar or draenei, that means they will question Vas first. They'll end up doing so before we get to them. I know she can speak their language. It might not be as fluid as they speak it but she can convey the differences and the truth." She had to place that faith in Vastania. If she couldn't place her faith in the younger Draenei, she didn't know who she could. "Which means if there's another who looks alike and is by themselves, it's a perfect chance to see if she speaks the truth. They could think it's an attack but if they wanted to attack they would be."

It was a wild idea and she was willing to give him that but she wasn't sitting back, not when her family was possibly in harms way. "These are not the same ones I've worked and lived alongside but I imagine some of their ideals and principles are the same. I can understand those. It means it's worth my attempting to speak with them."
seesbosscrotch: ('sup?)

[personal profile] seesbosscrotch 2014-05-05 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Brave, patient, not stupid, yes. But worried enough to pull a stunt like this. Fear, especially of the unknown, can quickly lead to smart men doing stupid or terrible things."

He really didn't want to have to tell her about how hard speaking of the draenei/eradar connection had been for Vas here in the Sanctum, where no one really intended to judge her or felt she was an enemy for the connection. She might crack under the pressure, or she might rise to the occasion.

"However, I do know that as understanding as the Vindicator might be if you got hurt, she would nevertheless be in pain, so perhaps let's compromise and put in an appearance together. You can show your goodwill by not murdering me, and I can be a representative of a non-draenei-looking race willing to stand by your side. Still gives you the harder job, admittedly, but if the worst comes about we can get each other away more easily than either of us alone."
ninjacques: (just a bit sheepish)

[personal profile] ninjacques 2014-05-05 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He caught himself from nodding again, tilting his head as Rose stopped. "...I can grow things..." That was the only thing he felt most comfortable with so far, and even if he might have started to dabble with anything else, he didn't think that these were the most appropriate circumstances to practice.
stormcalling: (To gain back the time you lost)

[personal profile] stormcalling 2014-05-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She couldn't completely understand not wanting to make it clear they were different. She watched their people fall but she would explain it all if it meant it gave others a chance. Vastania was a good kid, smart too. She didn't doubt her, she couldn't.

"It might not be a terrible idea." She had to give him that. She did know there was some strength in numbers although the idea of having to stand alongside him made her stomach churn. "I do worry about the idea of us approaching in general. Do we have any reason to believe there wouldn't be others trying to get hostages of their own back? Whose to say they wouldn't go to the lengths of violence? We might not be a threat to them but others may be."
seesbosscrotch: (cheer)

[personal profile] seesbosscrotch 2014-05-05 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Had they just arrived at an understanding?

How weird.

"Absolutely! That's why we need to get in touch with the other Flights as soon as possible! I've made some good connections in the Bronze and Blue, at least, that perhaps we can count on to listen, especially if we offer them a place at the table. We should extend the same to the Green and Black as well."
theshadowkissed: (Default)

[personal profile] theshadowkissed 2014-05-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That was better than nothing. "I don't know about Nowi and Lady, but at least between you and me, we can conceal the camp around the orb and fortify our position better. See you in an hour."

[ooc: I'll be breaking on the scrying comm when I come back from dinner tonight.]
