Quest Log: Suit Up!

Who: Dragon mages and dragonsworn.
What: You have been given a quest to infiltrate Sin'thalas and rescue your fellow dragonsworn. Also discussion of scrying orbs.
Where: The sanctums.
When: May 4th and ongoing for a week.
Warnings: Please PM the mods if needed.


Despite the chaos surrounding the disappearances of several Dragonsworn, your sanctum's dragon mage is trying to be calm about this. After a brief discussion behind the scenes with the others, he or she has returned.

"Gather 'round, I have some grave news. Several Dragonsworn have gone missing. We found them, but we are unable to rescue them by ourselves. It would look very bad if dragons were to attack a settlement. That is why we are asking you for help.

"Southeast of Suramar is a village named Sin'thalas. It is these elves who have taken and imprisoned the Dragonsworn. Whether you negotiate or use force to ensure the return of your brethren, it will not be easy. These elves are highly-trained and knowledgeable, far from the refugees you may have seen in the Retreat.

"In light of this, we have implemented a system to communicate over great distances." The dragon mage unveils a magical orb nearby, the perfect size for gazing. "This is a scrying orb. Approach it and think of Sin'thalas, and you will be seen and heard from the orb at that location. It also works in reverse. This should allow us to coordinate our movements depending on the flow of the situation.

"I urge you to think carefully about how best to retrieve your fellow Dragonsworn. You are yet a small force and highly outnumbered. We cannot afford to lose any of you."

[ooc: If characters want to use the orbs, lookingformore is now OPEN. Remember, orbs CANNOT connect from sanctum to sanctum!]

They have dwelled in the forest for some time, and dragonkind have kept to themselves. [He crosses his arms.] You have been visiting Silverglen; that may have grabbed their attention.

Regardless, contact with the elves is not a bad thing. I believe speaking to the leader of this village where they are being held is a necessity. Offer to trade and aid them, as many of you did with Silverglen Retreat. There is no need for weapons just yet.

[Carolina-mun said go ahead and skip her if you want, she'll jump back in when she wakes]

[He crosses his arms, considering.]

Right, I'm not sure I liked this- but I guess it is better to try to make an ally than another enemy.

But what do we got to trade? If they got the manpower to spare to kidnap Sworn, will just stag really cut it?

They do not have unlimited manpower. You could offer to protect the other villages in the area, cover supply lines... There may be a specific purpose to the abductions as well. We will only know if we foster communication.

[Krasus looks about as taciturn as one would expect.]

As for those taken... Shirley, Luke, and Vastania are in their custody. There are a few from the other flights as well.

Yeah, that's gonna go over big with the others. [He uncrosses his arms and stretches a little] Buuut I guess it's not the first time I've had to give aid to kidnappers, so who am I to judge.

[I'm sure you just imagined that pointed look. He keeps a mental note about the names of the kidnapped- but chooses not to show any emotional reaction to it]

Are all the other flights on the same page as you are about not burning the village to the ground?

There is no harm in asking, young one.

[Krasus keeps his emotions under wraps, as always.]

Yes. Fighting a war on two fronts is the last thing any of us want. We need to resolve the conflict between flights and not exasperate it, besides.

[He makes a hmph noise at that. He's not sure he agrees with that sentiment, but that's a philsophical debate for when people aren't being kidnapped]

Yeah, the flight conflict....what's up with that anyway? Is there a reason you guys don't get along or is it just a weird color-coordinated dragon thing?

The Dragonqueen made it clear it was more complex than that, but that was all, when I asked her. [And, well. Carolina hadn't been in the mindset to ask more at the time. Perhaps Krasus would enlighten them more now?]

Do we know who from the other flights? [because Wash failed to meet her for hunting that morning, and she has a horrible feeling..]

If we're going to need diplomatic ties, is it worth approaching the elves at Silverglen Retreat to see if they might vouch for us? The Sin'thalas elves might be more open to starting dialogue if we have something from their own kind.

[Krasus hesitates. He almost never hesitates.]

... The Dragonqueen was betrayed by someone very close to her. In the process, a few other flights were hurt as well. They withdrew as a matter of self-preservation.

As for the elves, that is a valid suggestion. We need all we can on our side.

[wilder]

A betrayal, huh... [yeah, he's noticing that hesitation. he wonders who it was. Someone from another flight? Or this one?] That stinks. They'll still be willing to work with us over this, right?

[And he nods at Carolina]

Yeah, good idea. Do you think they'll help us?

[guerriera]

[ Carolina freezes a moment; betrayal by those closest to you? That's something she knows a little all too well. her head turns away from the party, more towards where the Dragonqueen might often be seen at a distance across the Ruby Sanctum.

Then attention snaps back when Kaneis addresses her. ]

They've been getting solid business from us, more or less, since our arrival. They may not want to lose that - but they may also not want to get involved with fellow elves. We won't know until we approach them.

In the very least, might be they'll know who's best to talk to.

Dragonkin are not so eager to work with others, but you are Dragonsworn. If advances are to be made in how the flights communicate... it will be through you.

An interpreter may be useful, at the very least.

[wilder]

You're kidding, right? You guys dragged us outta our lives and into this war, telling us it's for the sake of the universe so get over our grievances - but then you dragons can't even be bothered to try to talk to each other because of a falling out? Even though the whole universe is at stake?

I dunno, man. I don't think that's really setting a good example for your Sworn.

[JUST SAYING MAN. But he'll look over at Carolina]

Yeah. It probably couldn't hurt to ask them at least.

[ There is a sharp look at Zelos, Carolina clearly irritated. ..Not that she disagrees with the sentiment, but it doesn't do much to help them right now. ]

One or two of us should go now, then. Then report back as quickly as we can - maybe by using one of those orbs nearby, if there's also one close to that village.

[ She doesn't think they'll be that lucky somehow. ]

Just to be clear - why are dragons encroaching on elf territory here? Or was that never a concern for the species prior to now?

[Krasus gives Zelos a sharp look.] Do you think I have not tried? I have dedicated many of your lifetimes to bridging the gap between the flights, in this world and in the one I came from. While I regret leaving dragonsworn problems to you, even forming some kind of loose council between the flights was nearly impossible. [Wow, he has a temper! Who knew! His voice drops a notch, but it is not softer by any means.] I am by far the most eager to work with the other flights, even knowing one of them slaughtered my own children.

You are not the only ones with sacrifices to be made.

[He takes a mental step back, tightening his cloak a little.]

It was never a problem before. We never visited the villages, or had much contact unless it was absolutely necessary. The sanctum was all we needed.

[Wow two sharp looks! Too bad that Zelos is so used to those it barely gets a reaction out of him. Instead he's taking notes on what Krasus says, logging it away for later. "The one I came from"? "One of them slaughtered my own children"? Huh. Veeery interesting.]

[But he knows the kidnapping is the priority here, so he'll just...put that on the backburner for now and back down] Alright, alright- didn't know you went through so much. Just know what I've seen, you know? Sorry.

[Nevermind he sounds totally calm about it and not all that apologetic]

Huh, really? Well I guess if a bunch of races never seen before started popping up, anyone would be suspicious.

[ She caught that too, as much a mention of lifetimes as it was mention of worlds. ]

Seems like the Legion aren't the only ones responsible for death and destruction here. Which flight was responsible for that? [That's a key detail and, frankly, something they need to know.]

When was the last time that contact was necessary?
