A: COOKING FIRE SHENANIGANS

Feeling peckish? Have a delivery to make? Or just want to try your own hand at serving up some grub? The Redsworn's usual cooking area has been expanded for the evening, with two extra firepits dug out to cater for additional mouths. Over one fire burns the now "traditional" starter meat of bear flank, something any newly sworn (red or otherwise) will have the pleasure of sampling first. There's also several baskets of berries, fruit and vegetables, while a pot obtained in trade from Silverglen bubbles merrily.

B: FIRESIDE MINGLE

The redsworn of the Ruby Sanctum have claimed a corner of their own beneath one of the larger trees. There's a smaller fire here set for warmth and ambience, and have logs set about for seating for those who don't like perching on rocks or roots, or don't find the comfy grass comfy - park yourself and have a chat!

It is home for many of my children. [ In other words: yes. ]

As you can witness, it is open to house many others so I cannot just claim it as my own.

I take it all the sanctums are quite different from one another?

They are. [ Thinking briefly on the question, but only for a few seconds. Not long enough to leave him wondering more. ]

Our children have preferences in their chosen environment. The sands of time flow freely through the Bronze Sanctum and the Emerald Sanctum itself is covered in more life than my own.

*he'd have waited for an answer if he thought was coming, anyway; generally speaking, one thing he never wants for is time, after all*

According to their nature, then.

You could say that. [ Familiarity is another reason, but she won't speak so boldly of her siblings right now. ]

Each of the Dragonsworn have had magical power bestowed upon them, a blessing, from each of their Aspects. This power is found commonly enough within their sworn sanctum which should make it easier to learn to use.

[ There are other abilities she has given her own, but who knows what her brothers and sister have done? ]

That's what it is?

*he and Jacques had discussed recently how the dragonsworn of different flights seemed to have access to different magical abilities, but he didn't know more than that*

Is it not easier to learn something if you are exposed to it constantly? [ Smiling when she asks that, to show she's not poking fun. ]

That and it is likely a safeguard to ensure you cannot turn on our children. Not that we expect you to, but we do have to protect the little ones.

Perhaps.

That, or risk being wiped out?

*he saw the carnage of that battle when the first dragonsworn were summoned... and the lack of young dragons in the blue sanctum*

[ Leave it to the younger races to believe they can wipe out dragons. The arrogance behind the thought leaves her unsettled, but she doesn't show it. Maybe there is something he knows that she does not. ]

We have lived for a long, long, long time and if all I hear is true, we will continue to do so for thousands of years.

*raises an eyebrow slightly*

If this world survives. Or are those demons no true threat, and all of us summoned here on a whim?

*he's well aware that he's probably treading on thin ice, so to speak, but he sees no reason to mince words for the sake of artificial politeness*

[ Nor does she see reason to tolerate it. Compassion for life only goes so far here. ]

It will survive due to the combined efforts of those who have been brought here.

Or do you not think yourself capable of rising up to the challenge?

It's not myself I have doubts about.

*there's just the briefest of pauses before he continues*

From what I've heard, it sounds as though not everyone is as inclined to join forces as those here.

Then why have they come? [ It's a curt response more out of instinct than any other. ]

All knew what would be asked of them when they came so I cannot see why someone who opposes protecting their world and our own would come.

*that just gets a shrug; he could name plenty of reasons, certainly, he's well acquainted with human nature, but he doesn't see any point in speculating*

Ask whoever falsely accused members of several flights, including this one, of crimes they didn't commit, maybe.

Explain... if you will please.

[ Even if the matters of the Dragonsworn aren't really of concern to the Aspects, she'll listen. If this is a problem that's overlooked, it could grow unruly whereas if it could be nipped right in the bud? Why deny that option to them? ]

Someone lied to the elves of Silverglen and convinced them that members of several flights had committed crimes against them. As a result, they refused to treat with anyone from those flights until the accused completed some task for them.

*he's not entirely certain she'll pick up all the implications from that--the way even such a minor mischief can fracture ties and hinder efforts at cooperation between flights--but he'll wait and see what her response is before deciding whether to elaborate further*

[ She does. Despite the calm and pleasant demeanor she has, the Aspect still holds the wisdom of many centuries behind her. The younger races just find it easier to communicate with someone who doesn't act all-knowing. ]

We are at war and cutting resources from one or more Dragonsworn is not all that difficult to accept.

Those damaged reputations have been restored, have they not?

It seems so.

Do you fear it will happen again?

[ It won't come as a surprise to her if it does. ]

The Kaldorei are a honorable race. If they were lied to once, they won't be fooled easily again.

I can't speak for dragons, but many humans fight poorly when they can't be certain of their fellows' intentions.

*in other words, it's not the elves he's concerned about, but the encouraging of a fractious attitude between dragonsworn of different flights*

[ It is war after all. ] Why does it matter what happens to the other Dragonsworn? Have you companions spread among them or do you intentionally pick this battle for no good reason?

[ Each of the Dragonsworn have been brought here to help their associated flights. What she will ask of her own she knows she cannot ask of her brothers' own, therefore she won't. ]

Even with our help, can any of the flights defeat the demons alone?

[lifeforged]

I cannot say. [ She's not a general and the war is handled by her children. ]

Within all of us, yourself included, is a strength that lays dormant waiting to be released. A single man can change the fate of the world if given opportunity, that is what legends are made of.

[lightningbearer]

*if he's moved in any way by such words, he certainly gives no sign of it*

Even heroes and champions have companions. And I don't care to stake the fate of the world solely on legends.

*not when he's already been part of making such legends on more than one occasion.... and more importantly, is it truly so difficult for the flights to cooperate?*

[ Apparently it is. ] That is why each flight has their own Dragonsworn.

When it comes to resolving matters, we all have a different vision. The day in which we all see with the same clarity is one I strive for, but it will take time. All wounds need time to heal.
