[OPEN] NO MORE BEAR MEAT
Who: Zelos and YOU
What: Sick of hanging around the Sanctum (and bear meat), Zelos decides to head out
Where: Silverglen Retreat
When: Todayish?
Warnings: Swearing and violence most likely
[A. Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO RED, BRONZE AND GREEN FLIGHTS.]
[It seriously hadn't taken long for Zelos to be sick of hanging around the Sanctum and training all the time. Being kept somewhere for his safekeeping had never sat well with him, after all. So he worked on learning about the other areas from the dragons. Sure, most places in the area seemed to want to happily kill him- but it sounded like Silverglen Retreat would be alright for a first stop!]
[Especially if he wanted to get food that wasn't flame-cooked bear meat.]
[And so, ignoring warnings of how it was dangerous outside, he headed out to Silverglen Retreat. He made it there without incident, and once he proved he was a Redsworn, he was allowed in with only wary staresm - which was something he was used to anyway.]
[His hair probably makes him for an easy person to spot in the marketplace, and currently he's wandering the stalls trying to figure out how to get supplies in a trade-based economy when your life skills are well, limited, to say the least.]
[B. Forest outside Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO ALL.]
[Eventually it seemed some elf decided to throw him a bone (or just get to stop hitting on their daughters for stuff) and made an arrangement that if he brought back a number of stag flanks- they'd give him some supplies he needed. Which hey, he could do that! He could fight, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?]
[Except, for one problem your character might come across, as he kneels over a stag that's clearly been killed by fire and sword cuts - a look of frustrated confusion very clear on his face]
Damn...where's the flank again?

[But yes he's gone for a good long while as he tries to get clean as possible without soap or warm water. It's a serious pain. But when he comes back, he seems to be mostly blood free- wring his wet hair of all the excess water]
Ugh, that's it. First thing I'm trading for is a hairbrush.
[BEING WITHOUT ONE IS HORRID. But okay, he glances down at Genis and his little bubbly friend]
Ready to go?
no subject
Or you could just whack it all off.
[ SEEMS LEGIT RIGHT. ]
But, um.. yeah. I guess so. [ NERVOUS. ]
no subject
Ha ha ha- No.
[HE'D RATHER DIIIIIIE. And he's picking up those nerves as he's picking up what leaf packs he can]
C'mon, it'll be fine. Grab what you can and let's get outta here.
no subject
[ okay okay act cool don't act like you're scared of being kicked out of that place again ok
it's not like he isn't
used to discrimination anyway or anything.. god
so he piles as many of the packages in his hands as he can manage, then directs mister splashybubblesquirt to carry a bunch too. man being a mage is convenient, he's quickly learning.. ]
O-okay! Let's go.
no subject
[But they had to try, right?]
[And hey, at least Mister SplashyBubbleSquirt makes a good mule!]
Okay! This way!
[And he starts heading, confidently, in the direction he THINKS the village is!]
no subject
C'mon, Bubbles!
[ genis will just try to.. psych himself up here, while they walk, and remind himself that it doesn't matter what those idiots think!! r-right? he'll prove them wrong.
.. somehow. ]
no subject
[But no just kidding. They make it there and no surprise, the guards halt them since wow THAT KID SURE RESEMBLES ONE WE JUST CHASED OUT. And so they address him first]
Bluesworn! You know your kind is not welcomed to this village!
1/2
[ OH NO HERE IT IS AGAIN. genis's first instinct is to panic. a hundred times, he's seen this scene, and each time he's only ever looked to raine for guidance, followed her lead, because that's how it was, that's how it always went. this is what he's used to. so, instinctively, he looks to zelos as well, but --
-- raine's not here, and he has to deal with this now, so.. ]
no subject
I -- b-brought you these!
[ nailed it ]
no subject
[The guards seem incredulous at what Genis is offering. Since seriously, who just offers leaf wrapped packages to guards that's totally strange! Was it a trap?]
[Zelos, luckily, will choose to speak up]
It's meat, from a large stag.
The kid's with me. We don't wanna cause trouble, just do some trading for supplies.
no subject
Y-yeah. I won't be any trouble at all.
[ he's trying so hard to not let his offense at all of this shine through, man. but he's used to masking that much, at least. long practice, and all that. so he looks to zelos again, briefly, then furrows his brows and widens his eyes in an attempt to look as absolutely harmless and sweet and adorable as possible. ]
And I'll be with him the whole time!
no subject
See? You got nothing to worry about. He's just a kid.
[Okay sure, a kid with a lot of magical power but they don't need to know that.]
[The guards still seem pretty wary about this. Too many dragon and sworn running around. But. They can recognize that if these two are being sincere, it could bring down a lot of grief from the flights to turn them away. And so, with great reluctance and looking like they just swallowed a bug]
...Fine. But if that Bluesworn pipsqueak causes any trouble, it'll be on your head, Redsworn. [And another glare at Genis] Don't even think about trying anything funny. We'll be watching.
[Zelos just seems to give an apathetic wave of his hand]
Yeah, yeah- we got it. Will you just let us through already? The blood's starting to seep through.
[The guards give a "Hmph" noise as they step aside so they can pass through]
no subject
good thing he isn't max level yet anyway.
at any rate, he keeps up the bright eyes and nods. ]
I-I won't.. !
[ but then the guards are moving, and they're past, and he can breathe again. genis heaves a heavy sigh, his shoulders dropping to a slump, and the starry doe-eyes give way to quiet disappointment, instead. and frustration, too, but he tries to keep that quashed, while they're within the borders of the village. ]
I don't get it.. why don't they like Bluesworn, anyway..?
[ NO ONE EXPLAINED THIS TO HIM, god, life is unfair. ]
no subject
[The guards eye them as they past, but they get through without anymore incident. However in the city, they are definitely getting wary stares. Maybe they can't tell that Genis is a blueflight right off the bat, but it was very clear Genis and Zelos weren't night-elves, meaning they must be Sworn. That alone is cause for them to receive stares and hushed whispers as they walk]
[Zelos seems to pretend to ignore as he walks. He got this stuff all the time as the Chosen, and at least a kindness to being human is that he can't hear what they are whispering about]
I'm not sure. [since hey, he's new here too!] I know Red flight's taken past steps to improve relations with this village...maybe Blue hasn't done the same.
[That and the fact that there were several undercover redflight agents around constantly watching probably helps too]
Maybe they'll change their tune once they realize you're useful.
[That...came out more cynical than he intended but oh well. It was the truth. People like you when you can benefit them. ]
no subject
anyway!! genis frowns a little thoughtfully at that. i mean, it makes sense, and it's probably true, but it still sticks in his craw a little bit. man, what bad luck he has, to find a place where no one seems to mind-half elves, but to be sworn instead into the flight that no one trusts..
life is hard when you're an unlucky child. ]
Yeah..
[ .. at any rate, these sort of discomforts aren't really things he should be talking about with zelos of all people, so he shakes his head and tries to focus on what's front of him. ]
Anyway, I wonder where we should take these.. are there any food vendors? Or, maybe the inn?
no subject
[...On second thought, why the hell do you even talk to Zelos in the first place?]
There's a small marketplace. We can probably fetch some good stuff there, and I gotta turn this flank into that guy.
no subject
because hey he's not all bad. i mean, he helped with this. that's something! ]
Oh, yeah! Okay, let's go there, then.
[ he's already got a laundry list in his head of things he needs to try to get.. ]
no subject
[He just gives a "hm" and heads off into the direction of the marketplace. Sure enough, there's several stalls and merchants around, trading various supplies. Zelos makes a B-line for the one he made the arrangment with, leaving Genis to look around at stuff]
[What I'm lazy about NPCing people]
no subject
genis has spoken to shopkeeps plenty of times, so he knows his way around a marketplace (especially a food market) - it's not hard to find a place to trade these in, though the vendors are wary, and genis almost, almost loses his temper when one of them snaps something particularly derisive, but --
-- praise martel he manages to remember logic, and all the things that dragonmama had told him, so.. he keeps it to a diplomatic dirty look and is off on his way. by the time he spots zelos again, he's managed to trade off all of the meat he'd been carrying (though mr bubbles still has some), for a nice roomy
mageweavebag, some bread, fruit, and small bolt of cheap silk he's hoping he can haggle off for some books, later.. thank goodness for chatty npcs that tell you what other npcs like, eh.anyway, he's runnin up beside you bro, good thing zelos really sticks out in a night elf crowd. sir squirt is in tow. ]
You get your thing?
no subject
[But good for you Genis! Zelos is finished with the merchant and looking around when Genis catches up to him. He's still got a few of his meat packs left, as well as a bag that seems to be full of things]
Ha, yeah. He tried to cheat me, but I convinced him otherwise.
[You probably don't wanna know how]
What'd you get?
no subject
at any rate, he grins and pats his nice new bag fondly. ]
Um, mostly food.. but also some silk. Apparently the guy with the books likes it, so..
[ so he's hoping he can wrangle some good studying materials out of him ok. you an take the nerd out of aselia, but he's still gonna be a little nerd. mister bubbles still has some meat packages, but.. he might hang onto those for himself, for now. ]
no subject
[Same old Genis. It's not like Zelos had anything against reading, it's a good way to pass some time, but he's been pretty preoccupied with surviving to even consider getting books]
no subject
Well, I mean.. anything to help us learn about this world, and what's going on, is good, right? If we're going to be stuck here, I want to know everything I can.
no subject
[You're still a nerd though]
I got some cooking utensils and other odds and ends. Have you heard of anyone trading maps of the region?
no subject
genis shakes his head. ]
Uh uh.. but.. the bookseller might know something about it, or they might even have maps, too.
