[OOC: This post is for any and all interaction with Derenaar and the Greensworn helping the elves from scouring demons to rearranging the greenery to other daily quests up to and including showing other Dragonsworn around. Please remember to add your tag to the post.]


[When the Greensworn arrived at Derenaar, they weren't entirely sure what to expect. Were these elves going to be like the Sin'thalas elves and wish their destruction because of some grudge against the dragons? Or would they be more like the elves of Silverglen Retreat, willing to allow them access and trade but stay distant? What they hadn't expected was - after a lengthy conversation in Darnassian between Rose Hathaway and the elven leaders of Derenaar - to be welcomed in with open arms to the city.

With it being better than initially expected, the Greensworn set about proving themselves by helping out in Derenaar. It seemed a bag of demon heads and a few Kaldorei druids that still honored the Green Flight went a long way.]

[After a moment of mutual silence, Mar figures he'd better be the one to speak!]

[Yeeeeah, that's not going to get them anywhere. Jacques' brow furrows just faintly at that. He's pretty sure that wasn't included in Darnassian 101.]

That's Thalassian. Translated, it means 'speak your business', although the translation is more brusque than the actual phrase is meant, so don't read too much into that.

[Luckily, Mar is the sort who lapses into exposition at the drop of a hat.]

[Blink. Oh, so he can speak...regular...language...

Jacques tilts his head at the explanation before nodding. How convenient.]

[...is there a quest completion he's missing somewhere?]

However, the sentiment remains an invitation to speak your business, phrased in a non-brusque sense!

[...Anything?]

[...oh right. This guy's probably expecting a reply, huh. Although for how much that Mar speaks, he could probably well carry a conversation on his own.]

...you seemed to be looking for something.

[seesbosscrotch]

[Yes he can. Up till now, he has been! But he's a little relieved that he isn't any more.]

I am. I'm used to having a riding mount or... a hundred... for transport, and I've been canvassing our local allies to see if I can obtain one again. I have a working relationship with the Silverglen elves, but trying to leverage more here isn't a bad idea.

[ninjacques]

[A hundred... What did one person do with a hundred mounts? Maybe he had an army? Jacques tilts his head, but then slowly he offers a nod.]

...I'm...not sure what I can do about that, but the Greensworn are supposed to help around here...

[seesbosscrotch]

Trust me, it's in your own interests as well if you can manage it! [Mar grins broadly. Greensworn are decent people!] The value of having a mount available is massive, for any number of purposes.

[ninjacques]

[Another nod. But he can't cover all responses with a nod, unfortunately.]

How would you handle so many..?

[Because the guy had said he used to have so many...]

Ah, well, in the Azeroth of my day and age, mounts are handled by summoning. Rather than walk about with an entire stable at one's beck and call, when you get a mount you in fact learn how to summon that mount to your side with a brief period of concentration and focus.

[Some people accuse Mar of being in love with his own voice, but the truth is he loves to share knowledge and information.]

[ninjacques]

[At least Jacques is used to such people. He's fine with just listening, being not much the talkative sort himself.

Summoning sounds interesting, and not completely a foreign concept, save that he's only used to Rune-magic based summoning, although he'd never heard of it used for such...mundane tasks.

Something does strike him, however, mounts aside.]

...this...isn't the same world you come from, then?

[seesbosscrotch]

[Mar raises a finger, pleased by the question.] An excellent question which is impossible to answer! To all appearances this is Azeroth, but even if it is the Azeroth I come from, it is some ten thousand years in the past. We also have to consider that Azeroth is a world that has been slapped around so hard by massive magical and supernatural events, including time travel. It has branched into different possible futures and temporal dead ends before, thanks to the constant warring of the Bronze and Infinite Dragonflights across time and space.

[ninjacques]

[Blink.]

[He's trying to digest that.]

[seesbosscrotch]

[Welp time for Mar to keep carrying this conversation then! He glances up at the sun, takes a moment to orient himself, then points in the direction of the Well of Eternity.]

If that doesn't blow your mind, consider that I will be at the final battle that leads to the destruction of the Well of Eternity, because in the past I traveled back in time to it. Which went quite differently than we knew it to have gone from history.

[He turns back to the friendly(?) Greensworn, pulling his hand in to stroke at his goatee thoughtfully.] I am inclined to think that this is a different Azeroth, or at least that some temporal damage has occurred, primarily because in the histories I'm familiar with, Neltharion didn't take the name 'Deathwing' until the middle of the battle to keep Sargeras out of Azeroth, nor does the invasion seem to be proceeding quite as history states.

[ninjacques]

[Since Mar points something out, Jacques looks in the direction indicated, even though from where they are, there...really isn't anything to see.]

[He's listening. He's listening to every word spoken, but it's still a lot of lines to draw. But...the hunter thinks he's got the gist of it.

...and in any case, he'll still respond with his go-to gesture: a nod.]

[Still a more positive answer than he gets from his own flight... and guess what! He can keep going!]

Which is one reason I want to acquire a mount. In the Azeroth of this time period, there ought to be numerous other factions about, trolls and the insects primarily. But we can't take that for granted.

[Oh no where's the off button Oh. He's not done yet. Although this at least is a little easier to swallow by way of information.]

...haven't seen any signs of either, yet, but there are still a lot of areas we haven't explored.

[seesbosscrotch]

Exactly. Thus the search for a nightsaber I can ride.

[He nods in satisfaction, considering himself to have explained everything quite well.]

Nightsaber....

[It takes him a moment to realize they've gone back to the subject of mounts.]

[seesbosscrotch]

Large riding cat. Traditional mount of the Kaldorei. [Answers for everything!] Keep an eye out for some of their patrols, you might see them. Then again, maybe not -- they're a notoriously stealthy people.

[ninjacques]

[Cats you could ride? He's pretty sure he hasn't seen anything of the sort out on his patrols, but he nods (again), because this is information he'll take to heart.]

[seesbosscrotch]

The trolls favor raptors. Another reason it would be ideal to get mounts of our own -- if they are as hostile as I expect them to be, we don't want to surrender the tactical advantage of speed and mobility.

[Yep, carrying this conversation by himself without even blinking. Maybe he DOES like the sound of his own voice.]

[ninjacques]

[All this information would probably be better given to Rose, or even Geddoe, if Jacques' merc leader were around. Since neither are here at the moment, all Jacques can do is hope he can remember the important points. At least he can understand this line of conversation better than the one with warped timelines.]

That makes sense.

[And at least he's a little familiar with raptors, having seen some around.]

[Mar falls into a thoughtful silence, which is honestly more than half intended to prod Jacques into asking what he's thinking. He doesn't expect this to work, but hey, no harm trying.]
