[A. Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO RED, BRONZE AND GREEN FLIGHTS.]

[It seriously hadn't taken long for Zelos to be sick of hanging around the Sanctum and training all the time. Being kept somewhere for his safekeeping had never sat well with him, after all. So he worked on learning about the other areas from the dragons. Sure, most places in the area seemed to want to happily kill him- but it sounded like Silverglen Retreat would be alright for a first stop!]

[Especially if he wanted to get food that wasn't flame-cooked bear meat.]

[And so, ignoring warnings of how it was dangerous outside, he headed out to Silverglen Retreat. He made it there without incident, and once he proved he was a Redsworn, he was allowed in with only wary staresm - which was something he was used to anyway.]

[His hair probably makes him for an easy person to spot in the marketplace, and currently he's wandering the stalls trying to figure out how to get supplies in a trade-based economy when your life skills are well, limited, to say the least.]

[B. Forest outside Silverglen Retreat. OPEN TO ALL.]

[Eventually it seemed some elf decided to throw him a bone (or just get to stop hitting on their daughters for stuff) and made an arrangement that if he brought back a number of stag flanks- they'd give him some supplies he needed. Which hey, he could do that! He could fight, so that shouldn't be a problem, right?]

[Except, for one problem your character might come across, as he kneels over a stag that's clearly been killed by fire and sword cuts - a look of frustrated confusion very clear on his face]

Damn...where's the flank again?

.. we still have to scavenge, for some things! I thought I'd be able to get something in the town, but..

[ HE WAS ASSUMING YOU GOT KICKED OUT OF THE TOWN TOO, BUT APPARENTLY NOT.. ]

They.. wouldn't let me in.

[ BEING A HALF-ELF IS SUFFERING, THE STRUGGLE IS REAL... genis winces visibly. ]

I don't know if it was exactly that, but..

[ well. it still hurt. and ticked him off, too!! ]

[Oh, whoops. Maybe he had put that too harshly...somehow? Gah what's that weird tact thing people keep going on about.]

Well- who cares what they think. They're just some guys with weird eyebrows who live out in the boondocks. What do they know?

[ TACT INDEED.. god.. but zelos manages to salvage it somehow in that.. weird way that he's able to do the comforting thing. it actually works with genis, surprisingly, because he GETS UNCOMFORTABLE when people try to coddle him, so.

go figure. ]

Heh.. yeah, what's with those eyebrows, anyway?

[Aw yeah he wins. Or got lucky, whatever. HE'LL TAKE WHAT HE CAN GET]

I don't got a clue. They're pretty stupid.

Anyway, one of them said they'd give me supplies if I brought them some stag flanks. If you help out, maybe I could be persuaded to split the goods.

[ genis "starved for social interaction" sage is more than happy to jump all over this, you know, and his face brightens openly for a moment -

- but then he remembers his sass, and exhales in a haughty snort. ]

Well.. I suppose I miiight be willing to help you out. I doubt you have any idea what you're doing, anyway..

[ Meanwhile Zelos "what is social acceptance" Wilder just assumes that face brightening is because he's being offered a chance for food. It's understandable, really!]

[He scoffs]

Please. Like you know how to do this any better.

[Even if that would be helpful because my god what is a flank]

[ way to misinterpret, zelos "bad ending" wilder!! ]

Hey! How do you know that, huh? Raine and I have spent a long time on the road you know, and I know tons about cooking, and preparing meat! And I've read books..

[ so okay he's never actually done this physically himself before, but.. ]

[wilder]

Really?

Well, go ahead then! [Gesturing at the still dead stag] We need the flank.

[gravitywell]

B-but..

[ euygh!! you're the physical one here, zelos, you can get your hands dirty. genis pulls a face. ]

You're the one who's good with the sharp things, okay? How about you do the cutting, and I do the telling-you-what-to-do.

[wilder]

'Good with sharp things'. Wow, that doesn't make me sound shady.

[But he sighs and moves to kneel. He rather not fuck up the chance for dinner over making the kid do stuff out of spite]

Fine. Tell me where to cut.

[gravitywell]

Okay! The flank, right? That's this part.

[ the upside of having a little genius sponge mind - genis might never have personally done this himself before, but he's seen plenty of diagrams which he can call to mind literally photographically, so. convenient! he pops down onto his knees to point out a place on the lower belly, just before the thigh, outlining a shape with his hands. ]

Here! Though it seems like a waste to just leave the rest, there's all kinds of usable meat..

[ this is how poor people think okay. and chefs. ]

[He'll watch him outline the shape. Zelos wasn't slow, but he was definitely sheltered when it came to stuff like this. Most monsters weren't really edible, and the ones that were they just cut whatever. And even then, most meat he did consume had already been cut up by a butcher.]

[But still, he focuses enough that he only needs to watch once before he gives a nod and an "alright", leaning over to start cutting into the animal. It's gross and bloody, but really most sword fighting and medical work is so he barely thinks twice about it.]

[Nor does he think twice about whether Genis is right or not. Anyone else he'd question, but he knew better than to do that with a Sage.]

[At Genis's remark, he agrees, but...]

Yeah, but you got a way to carry it back to the village?

[gravitywell]

[ yeah, talk about gross... euygh. genis pulls a face, but keeps his commentary to himself, because he doesn't need zelos flinging bloody meat at him in retaliation i mean gross.

instead he's thinking, frowning in thought and lifting his eyes to the area around them, the trees, the bushes, the grass.. it just seems like such a waste -- but then -- ]

Oh! The leaves! We could wrap some, to carry.. I mean, not a lot, but..

[wilder]

[...Yeah okay he'd probably do that, so good idea Genis. So he'll just keep cutting away, blood and guts woohoo!]

Leaves, huh?

Hmmm...well, might as well give it a shot. Gather some while I cut this guy up, okay?

[gravitywell]

Got it!

[ PLANS. he likes them. and this works out well; genis just couldn't swallow the idea of leaving so much meat left here to rot. where he's from, you just.. don't waste food, okay, or any real resources at all.

so he's off!! dashing between the trees in search of plunder. ]

Heh.. [And he meanwhile keeps cutting! It's not easy work, but at least his knife is sharp. he just...hopes he's cutting this guy right ugh. Maybe he should learn skinning or something.]

[But no matter, still cutting! Be careful not to disturb any of the animals that hang out in the forest there Genis]

[ YEAH HE'S.. not gonna do that. turns every forest animal into a sheep

at any rate, he's back in maybe fifteen minutes or so, panting and flushed but with his hands full of a bunch of large, broad, fat leaves. ]

Had to go a little far to find the big ones.. [ puff puff ] .. but I washed them really good. I think they'll work..

[He glances over at the leaves. Well...he's not exactly a botanist, but they look good enough to him!]

Hey, nice work. I'm just about done here, so...start wrapping the chunks I've cut already?

[you know, the wonderful bloody chunks]

but it's not like he isn't used to, you know, working with raw meat. he does it all the time, when he cooks. maybe it's not quite, uh.. this raw, but he's got more of a gut than most people (and himself) give him credit for, sometimes! besides, he's seen enough deaths by now that it can't much faze him.. alas, for fighty canons.

at any rate, he sets to work immediately, wrapping up as much as he can in tight, neat little bundles, his tongue poking from the corner of his mouth. genis "domestic work" sage. ]

WELL...MAYBE I DO!!

[Yes good be a domesticated little Genis! Zelos will finish up the cutting up. He's no professional at this, so most of the cuts are still sloppy- but he's made sure to get what meat he can from the animal. Whether or not they'd be able to carry it back is another question]

[He looks back and wipes his brow, before leaning over to see how he can help with the wrapping]

Heh...I sure hope this'll get us a good haul.

Oh yeah, that's right..

[ genis sits back a little to survey the nice stack of wrapped meat bits, looking vaguely thoughtful. ]

There's no currency here, right? It's all in trade..

[ and meat can be valuable!! but man, his hands are all sticky and gross now. ]
