A: COOKING FIRE SHENANIGANS

Feeling peckish? Have a delivery to make? Or just want to try your own hand at serving up some grub? The Redsworn's usual cooking area has been expanded for the evening, with two extra firepits dug out to cater for additional mouths. Over one fire burns the now "traditional" starter meat of bear flank, something any newly sworn (red or otherwise) will have the pleasure of sampling first. There's also several baskets of berries, fruit and vegetables, while a pot obtained in trade from Silverglen bubbles merrily.

B: FIRESIDE MINGLE

The redsworn of the Ruby Sanctum have claimed a corner of their own beneath one of the larger trees. There's a smaller fire here set for warmth and ambience, and have logs set about for seating for those who don't like perching on rocks or roots, or don't find the comfy grass comfy - park yourself and have a chat!

B: Let's talk about Demons

[Vas has discussed the Legion's forces in detail before, but only for the benefit of the Red Dragonsworn. It should come as no surprise, then, that she uses this chance to explain the demons to any other Dragonsworn who will listen. Imps and Succubi, Dreadlords and Pit Lords and even a few of the demons she didn't have a chance to describe earlier - the Shivarra, Terrorguards, Fel Hunters, and Infernals - all laid out in detail to whoever asks. Though, some Redsworn may notice that she's been careful to avoid discussing the Eredar. Perhaps her lecture is long enough without recounting the history of the Draenei.]

[ as she listened, arya's expression changed from curiosity, to doubt, to very marked concern. accompanied by nymeria, already so large and as fierce and unafraid as always, arya still feels very small and very alone.

again she wonders why she was brought. she's too small and too weak to be of much help against those creatures. all she would be good at is passing unseen, and then only with luck on her side. she doesn't know how she might be expected to fight.

perhaps sensing how upset she is, nymeria whines and noses arya's chest. arya quietly shushes her. ]

[Vas is too busy scanning the Sanctum to notice exactly what the girl says, just that she's said something. She looks to her, extending a hand in what she hopes seems like a friendly gesture.]

I'm sorry, did you have a question?

[persequor]

[ arya quickly shakes her head. ]

No, I was just — [ she does have a few. now that she already has vas' attention on her, she'd might as well. ] Do they have any special ways of finding us? Like, can they sense us if we're near or have really good hearing — ?

[Vas shakes her head.]

Some kinds of demons are sharper than others, but they cannot sense most ordinary people from a great distance. [She points to the wolf.] Your friend there is much sharper than they are.

The only ones who need to be cautious are adepts in the magical arts. Demons are attracted to magic in all its forms.

[persequor]

[ so she's screwed. not that she'd know.

case in point: ] I don't know any magic.

[She's already tried and failed to reassure one of the younger Dragonsworn. Let's see if she can screw up again.]

You may need to be careful. I have heard that some Dragonsworn have been granted new magical abilities. If you have too, you will need to learn how to control it. If you have not, I do not see how the Legion could sense you any more easily than the people in Silverglen.

[Since this is a pretty big area of interest to Bruce (especially since they are supposed to be fighting them, after all), he does come to listen once he realizes what is being spoken here.

For the most part through the talks he is silent, just taking it all into his mind and storing them for later perusal. Once she asks for questions, though, Bruce is one of the first to ask.]

Yes, if you don't mind. I would like to know more about this 'fel magic', if possible.

[She clasps her hands together and touches her lips with her index fingers. Vas has been working from the assumption that none of the Dragonsworn here have any idea of what they're up against, so she needs a moment to frame her explanation.]

Ordinary magic involves manipulating energies to create or alter matter. Even when a magus uses magic to destructive ends, magic is not directly responsible for that destruction. The magus may conjure a ball of fire or a lump of ice with their magic, but the ice must be thrown and the fire allowed to ignite other things if it is meant to destroy.

Fel magic is magic used only to destroy matter. The warlocks who use it must offer sacrifices, usually of their own blood, to empower their spells. But so as fel magic is used to destroy, it also destroys those who use it.

[There's a moment where Bruce attempts to comprehend this. Magic is really a thing he still can't grasp, having come from a world where--well, okay, he can't say that isn't any magic, considering what he remembered from Loki. But that's another thing altogether.

Really, this whole thing is very different from what he knows of Earth. And that's saying something, considering his own condition.]

So... you're saying fel magic is powered by - I suppose you could call it - their 'souls'?

[She holds up one hand in correction. It's good to have someone asking about these things, but clearly she missed explaining something.]

No... and yes. There are warlocks who sacrifice themselves for their magic, and they may sacrifice pieces of their souls if they so choose. And there are warlocks who sacrifice others - innocents - to fuel their spells.

[Her voice peters out, and she looks down at a spot on the ground near her hooves. There's just no getting around that part of fel magic, even if Maridian asked them all to not judge warlocks too harshly.]

[Its fine correcting him. Unlike some other genius, Bruce doesn't have that much of an ego (or rather he had, and it didn't get him anywhere).

He frowns a bit at the last part. Considering what he knows so far of the nature of fel magic, its not too surprising. He's not a fantasy buff back home, but it makes sense all the same. Energy has to come from somewhere after all; it couldn't just be made randomly from thin air. Law of conservation of energy, and all that.]

There still has to be an energy source, then, from where the caster draws the magic from to cast it.

You have experience fighting them before...?

[Vas squints and starts to say something, stops, and makes a gesture with her hands that suggests he's neither wrong nor right.]

I belong to one of the oldest orders of paladins. My people have opposed the Legion for twenty-five thousand years. I have not fought every kind of demon in the Legion, but I have studied them all, and our knowledge of the Legion is quite thorough.

*nods*

I see.

*that's a lot more than anyone else could say, at least*

[He waits until she's done with the other Sworn's questions. He's leaning against a tree with his arms crossed - looking as calm as ever.]

Yo Vas. I got a question for ya.

[telaari]

[She acknowledges him with a nod. Kaneis may not be her favorite among the Redsworn, but he's one of the more competent members of their rag-tag group. Even if he does have an attitude that she doesn't care for.]

[Sure, it crosses his mind to do a trolling question- buuut he actually has something he wants to know]

Is it possible for the Legion to corrupt animals or people to the point of being brainless killing machines?

Do you mean willingly, or unwillingly?

[It should speak volumes about the Legion that she needs him to narrow his question down.]

[Uh yeah that is not comforting at all]

Uh...I dunno how it came about exactly, so...both?

[Rose, of course, only has so much tact in any given day. And since she used up all of it earlier, she asked something Vas probably didn't want asked in such a gathering.]

That doesn't explain why the elves thought you were a demon, Big Blue. You're pretty distinguishable from the demons. [At least the ones Vas described.]

[And that's all she needed to hear. Vas' face pales, and she feels the blood in her veins go cold. She clenches her fists, and her tail clings to the boulder she sits on.]

I, ah... The Kaldorei are a suspicious people. I believe that our arrival on Azeroth so soon after the arrival of the Legion may have... confused them. They mistook me for something I am not. There are many demons with hooves and horns, so it is not impossible that they were mistaken.

[Rose's eyes narrowed at the reaction - both the physical and verbal ones. Though, despite her not having tact, she chose not to call Vas out on that. There was something else going on there, but the draenei was Rose's friend.

She'd just confront her about it later.]

...see, horn prejudice like I said before. [That was said after a moment.] I guess they could've thought you were a girl satyr, since I'm pretty sure all the satyrs I've ever seen were male. If not, they so need to learn the concept of body hair control.

[telaari]

[Vas forces her shoulders and hands to relax. If she had to guess, Rose didn't buy her explanation, but she thanks the Light that the other paladin isn't pursuing that question in front of the crowd.]

... Y-yes, I suppose I do look like a satyr. Succubi also have horns and hooves, and tails. So it is possible.

[She'll leave it at that for now, and beckon Rose to join her once the crowd disperses. Time to own up.]

[Except succubi had wings... Satyr was the better cover, Rose thought. She didn't pursue things further, letting the conversation shift back to the discussion of the demons with the others, but she didn't miss Vas getting her attention once the others moved on to get food or whatnot.

She nodded and walked a bit away from the fire to a tree that was far enough away that their conversation wouldn't be overheard easily.]

Pony up, Vastania. Let me guess, the draenei are demons. You're just the ones that don't want to destroy everything and told the Legion to go piss off.
